Didn't see a C or D for them and I am listening to J Beez Wit The Remedy's "My Jimmy Weighs a Ton" right now.

I can't say C or D because this is the only album I've heard.

recieved wisdom: first two fantastic. wit remedy compromised. ignore the rest but try to hear the crazy wizdom masters ep. i toe the party line.

Jungle Brothers, C. De La Soul, C. Tribe Called Quest, C.

I can't really rate one without considering the other two.

I read some reviews that said J Beez was a lesser effort, but I think its excellent! Its like Native Tounges meets Bomb Squad or something (do they always sound this busy production-wise? i'd imagine not on the house tracks)! Do want to hear the EP though, obv.

I don't know why I didn't check them out earlier since I've been a Tribe Called Quest Fan.

Done By The Forces Of Nature is probably my FAVORITE hip-hop album eva. It needs to REMASTERED, but whatever it rules. Yes, their production is pretty busy, but not bombastic like the the B.S. Sort of all over the place.

They do real creative things, their beats are BANG'N...

WORD LIFE.

I am DL'n Remedy right now...never heard it.

ddb, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 12:01 (nineteen years ago) link

I love the first 3 records. Done By The Forces came out when there was just an avalanche of great rap records being released every day it seemed. The Junior sample is still one of my top ten samples of all time. I loved all the videos too. There isn't anything that record can't do. I love Wit The Remedy too. They were smoking tons of pot and hanging out with Bill Laswell at the time and some of that stuff is just straight-up stoner rock NOISE which I love, but maybe that's why some rap fans weren't as in to it at the time.(I love "I'm In Love With Indica") The first record is wonderful as well. One of my fave things is the house remix of Black Is Black on my Warparty comp.

This is possibly the greatest comment ever.

All I can say is JIMBROWSKI! JIMBROWSKI!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 12:42 (nineteen years ago) link

classic for 'What U Waitin 4' alone

J Beez Wit the Remedy is a GENIUS album, way way waaaaaay ahead of its time. Compare it to what happened in backpacker hip-hop ten years later (Anticon, ClouDead, Anti-pop Consortium, etc.) and it's all there - the chopped beats, the abstract lyrics, the strange samples, the anti-mainstream vibe. One of my personal favorite hip hop albums, it even has a great love song for chrissakes! And then it ends with some of the most ear-splitting cacophonous noise beats ever made! Great great great. My favorite of all their albums.

Im listening to REMEDY right now.

And it is FUCKING ruling! I wanna be OUTSIDE with MANY BEERS!

ddb, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:23 (nineteen years ago) link

kind of like classically dud, or maybe duddily classic. Potentially great band that never quite went all the way.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:31 (nineteen years ago) link

I think they went all the way and then ended up back at the beginning (ie, opening for N'Sync)

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:33 (nineteen years ago) link

"straight out..." and "j beez..." are classic. "done by the forces of nature" is SUPER CLASSIC.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:34 (nineteen years ago) link

that reminds me - can anyone explain to me what a "40 Below Trooper" is?

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:35 (nineteen years ago) link

they're like the Velvet Underground of undie rap.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:35 (nineteen years ago) link

I can't believe I just wrote that.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:36 (nineteen years ago) link

getting drop'd be Warners is cold...40 below COLD!

ddb, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:37 (nineteen years ago) link

Their first three albums really need to be remastered, they are really fucking wonderful albums but, now that I'm used to the modern standard of punch and clarity, they seem kinda sonically flat.

I never bothered to listen to the album they did that was produced by that thurr Alex dude from Propellerheads, maybe I should give it another chance.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:38 (nineteen years ago) link

Classic based on "Done By the Forces of Nature," all by itself.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:38 (nineteen years ago) link

haha - I dunno Stence, that isn't so far off. Although the Velvets didn't have comparable "sister" bands that made it big while they failed....

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:39 (nineteen years ago) link

true, although you could say a lot of the other stuff around the Factory was pretty big.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:40 (nineteen years ago) link

classic like kool keith for all the great ways and times their rap bits have been used as samples in hardcore/house/techno/jungle tracks.

oh god so much love
for the brothers that it hurts.

40 Below Trooper: one who trooped the city in SuperTims, aka 40 Belows, aka those big ass Timberlands that cover all leg below the knee

(see cover of ultramagnetic's "funk your head up" lp)

...i need not speak of my feelings for this group, since i'm essentially a founding member of a JB's tribute band...

can you download it if you pay that $22? (this album is worth $22, I dream about an alt timeline in which it actually came out and altered the course of history)

Milton Parker, Friday, 15 January 2021 00:05 (three years ago) link

Huh, wow. No joke, I blasted "Done by the Forces of Nature" at dinnertime last night!

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 15 January 2021 00:07 (three years ago) link
