Can anyone halp me out on this one?

Which musician has spent the most time in jail? Leadbelly? Varg Vikernes of Burzum?

Also: Weirdest crime committed by any musician?

Robert Pete Williams did 3 years of a long jail sentence for murder, but got let out when two ethnomusicologists appealed on his behalf.

The drummer bloke (Hugh?) from the Housemartins got banged up for armed robbery, so I'm guessing he got 10 years plus. If only they'd nicked the bass player instead...

Tom Barman hasn't spend the longest time in jail. But he has spent time in jail (for alleged liquid cocaine possession). I just wanted to plug dEUS again. heh

Maybe the Prisonaires?

I did some maths:
Leadbelly: 11 years 10 months
Varg Vikernes: Went to jail in 1993, still imprisoned, so he should beat Leadbelly in a couple of months.

How many years was Ike Turner locked up?

And Jim Gordon? (Or was he found innocent by virtue of insanity?)

Joseph McCombs, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim Gordon has been in jail since 1983, so he is in the lead now. 21 years!

By the way: I've disqualified Charles Manson.

spade cooley earned several points on the weird scale for first recording a song called "you clobbered me" -- sung from a woman's point of view -- and then beating his wife to death.

p. diddy earned many weird points, too, for beating up record exec steven stoutee with a chair, a champagne bottle and a telephone. he didn't earn any jail time, but you've still got to give it up to anybody who uses a telephone in the commission of a crime -- without either making or receiving a call.

stoutee = stoute

Varg Vikernes, the Burzum frontman who is serving a 21-year prison sentence in Norway for the 1993 murder of a rival in the band Mayhem, has been sentenced to 14 more months in jail. His sentence was extended as a result of his failed escape attempt late last year, in which he was charged with car theft and possession of an AG3 automatic rifle and 700 bullets.

Is it legend or did Johnny Cash spend a night or two in the tank?

Bukka White -- 3 years for assault
Billy Joel -- (?) driving his car into a house.
Glen Campbell -- missing a bridge whilst sloppily drunk.
Wynonna Judd -- Driving while bitch-ugly.
Michael Jackson -- impersonating a white male.

Cash spent a night here and there; he wrote the hilarious "Starkville City Jail" about one of them.

In the Spade Cooley category, there's also Pat Hare, who recorded "I'm Gonna Murder My Baby" before doing just that.

Weirdest crime committed by any musician?

Surely rapper Big Lurch killing his roommate and eating her lung while high on PCP fits the bill?

(thread revived due to me searching Burzum after finally reading 'Lords of Chaos' this week, years after the fact)
