Apparently, attendees will get a chance to DJ tunes on their iPod for 10 minutes, provided they sign up around 7pm.

Anyone up fer it?

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

10 minutes? So you can put on a Kraftwerk song and then leave.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

or an Amon Duul II song...

or 20 Anal Cunt songs.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

200, I think you mean.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

oh wait... "please no offensive songs... :)"

ok, 13 early Wire songs.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

...or half a Yes song.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

sigh...

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

goddammit.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, I saw this. looks kinda fun. was actually going to ask you if you might be up for it, DB!

I'll play "Mother Sky" and then eat wings. sounds like a plan.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I envy Matos's utter brilliance. (I still think he should come to Portland or at least bilocate so one of him can still see the Perlon thing.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

(Fuck, if Ellen Allien is NOT playing the Holocene in portland, why can't Mr. Perlon come down to take her place the Friday night instead? anyway...)

I like Matos's plan.

I'm up for it. (I will have restored cell phone service in about an hour or so, so I will call you..)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"The event will be hosted by a suprise emcee"

*Crosses fingers* please let it be John Kerley. Or Steve Pool.

I can't go no-how, but if I could, I think I would play Supernaut. Twice.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, tonight's deal is the dry run. the MAIN event is tomorrow. so iPod night is happening both tonight and tomorrow. I'm thinking of going to both (although I'll see how tonight goes to see if it "works")

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna attend both. Should be fun and write-up-worthy.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Well.. it was... kinda fun! Except there was this one guy... "stylish" long haired big guy who came up to Matos and I and asked "Hey man, great stuff! Were those your own songs?" (this after Matos fucking played an early hardcore breakbeat track and THE HOLD FUCKING STEADY!... "Yeah, Matos is very diverse in his musicianship, you see"), I remember saying "nope.. we're not original" or something slightly self deprecating, then the guy went on to tell us what we were about to hear was "his remix of Brian Eno" and was really "deep" about it.

That guy was exactly the element I was afraid would show up. But fuck it. I think iPod night is a great thing if you get enough of your friends over. The other guy who played Stereolab, something Dandy Warholsish, and White Zombie was great!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Except there was this one guy... "stylish" long haired big guy

He just wanted to be suave.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe I shouldn't be so mean to Fabio.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 05:07 (twenty-two years ago)

So, who's up for tonight (Fabio dude or not)?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"that element"?!?!??!?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

...ur, did I say the wrong word?

i meant the types of folks that want to go to these nights purely to show off and one-up the others with "their own creative work" (per track) even though it's not all that creative or original. People are free to play what they want, but I'd personally feel really cheesy if I played my own music there, ya know? (maybe I struck a bad chord and maybe I'm in the minority here?)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

don't hate the game, hate the game designers.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

it's an experiment, and there are good and bad sides to "the game" so to speak. What is considered good or bad is subjective in this context. I'll certainly grant that.

"the game designer" turned out to be a really nice guy and is very open to a lot of things (perhaps even some critical feedback), as it turns out. We'll see how it turns out tonight. Either way, as a promotional tool for his venue, it's a great idea, nonetheless.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, he has long hair, we should make fun of him.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

you got me, h. There's that first stone in the pile over there. throw it at me.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I've also made fun of Jewel's mental problems on a recent thread as well. make that TWO stones.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

dude I'm totally funning with you.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

same here, dude.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

but yeah you shouldn't be so insecure about other nerds.

(more fun!)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

So post your playlists then db and matos (if you went). I'm curious.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

it's not insecurity as just being initially annoyed (in a "Hey, Bro! I'll get your latte in a sec, sporto" kinda way.) I think it's quite hilarious after the fact, but my original post on the Fabio guy was just reliving the first few seconds of dealing with him.

(disclaimer: SEE? FUN FUN FUNNIN' YA!)

Christ.. here's what I played:
* Accutrac 4000 "Welcome To the Accutrac 4000 Turntable (demonstration)"
* United State Of Electronica "Emerald City"
* Sweet "Fox On The Run"

then I got another chance, and i played
* sample from Sinistar video game ("Beware I live") (thanks to Nate)
* M83 "Run into flowers (Jackson remix)"
* Capitol K "Capitol Sticky Beat"

Matos had two rounds as well, and he can post the track listings if he wants.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I forget which US of Electronica song I heard, but it seemed to combine and magnify all the most obnoxious qualities of Daft Punk and Andrew WK (I could understand how this would be enjoyble though)

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd imagine if iPod night was monopolized by ILM, there would be random bursts of "GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" in random tables all over the venue periodically throughout the night. That, itself, would be worth the night.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Like how?

How many times was Postal Service played?

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Like how?

Like WHOA.

How many times was Postal Service played?

From the time I arrived to when I left: zero.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

How many times was Wolf Eyes played?

Be sure to Loop! Loop, Loop, Loop. (ex machina), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

zero

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, tonight's was quite fun, because someone (at least in our group) all got something out of it:

me : free $50 gift certificate to the Apple store
Jen : little red hot glitter T and a mega coctail shaker
Martin : getting applause before playing an early 10 minute long Flaming Lips song
Matos : getting everyone's ass shaking during his final set

Although the M.C. guy was super nice, the idea of having an M.C. for this version of the night was.. well, a poor decision.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Who was the mystery MC?

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 27 May 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

some really nice guy who had to read a really bad script written by the sponsors.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 27 May 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

So, he wasn't famous or special? Cuz I think we were promised both.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 27 May 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea. The scripts certainly didn't hold a candle to KEXP's wacky John In The Morning.
