what are you talking about, they are here as always.

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

now now dave. "we don't want another oswald" as it were.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 27 May 2004 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i just can't read it, that's all. have no axe to grind with the writer, as a person, just can't get to grips with the work.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 27 May 2004 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i rarely feel like i understand the full implications of what he's talking about (can someone direct me to a useful primer of recent british history?), but i always enjoy reading whatever he has to say. classic.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 27 May 2004 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i think robins writing definitely deserves wider exposure. perhaps its is very specific, and possibly impenetrable to non uk-aware readers, but it definitely has a cohesive and coherent narrative thread, that ties everything together

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 27 May 2004 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm english.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 27 May 2004 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

my apologies, my response was sort of a reply to justyn, and sort od a general comment on its britcentricity

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 27 May 2004 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i have mentioned robin's writing to the people at verso as i think it would be right up their street (at least sociopolitically). he certainly should be published.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 27 May 2004 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i should (however briefly) come out of my lurkerdom to reveal that i certainly haven't given up blogging (which i initially thought tom was fearing). actually i have been quite hard on myself recently for my failure to update the blogs, it is not for lack of ideas in my mind, far from it ... i have been through a turbulent phase in my life since i last updated either, in that i've lived through the deaths of a close relative and a once very close friend. the knowledge and consciousness of those events will be within the next pieces i write for the house at world's end, probably within the next 24 hours.

as for the other ones, i suspect i may have got cold feet over the prospect of having to listen to Connie Francis' horrendous "Mama". but i will, i will ...

He do come around here! Hooray!

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 28 May 2004 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

it could be worse, you could be listening to genesis' even more horrendous "mama" with phil collins' dead scary (not) nick-cave's-got-nothing-on-me cackle. perhaps he recorded it just after seeing the '83 General Election results.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 28 May 2004 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry to hear your news robin and good luck.

haha i love this song. It's like proto-Timbaland!

Michael B, Friday, 28 May 2004 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

now *there's* a link i wouldn't make even in my most deranged Wienerisation moments! funnily enough Collins will turn up in The Other Ones at some stage - i think it's "In The Air Tonight", which is admittedly one of his better songs (i'll try not to mention the fact that "English Culture and the Decline of the Industrial Spirit" was published during its chart run).

two years pass...
If you're wondering where he is, he's probably busy here.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 4 August 2006 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

well yeah its all on 'run away home'.

xyzzzz__ (jdesouza), Friday, 4 August 2006 21:20 (nineteen years ago)

ah yes, Wikipedia, what I do when I'm bored. recently, mainly, pedantically tinkering with articles on singles I don't like (and, specifically, adding them to the "German number one singles" category when necessary) while listening to music I do like (tonight: Momus' "Ballad of the Barrel Organist" and most of "Timelord", Would-Be-Goods, Saint Etienne B-sides).

much to follow on Run Away Home, rest assured.

Thanks
