Well, Dre himself didn't exactly keep to this strict moral standpoint, did he? His (limited even to start with) rapping skills didn't improve with drug abuse either.
Compare and contrast his Express Yourself statement of disinterest in such recreational activities as "it's enough to give a brother brain damage/ and brain damage on the mic don't manage nothin'/ cept makin' a sucker and you equal" etc
...with the 'after' of 10 years later: "Get my drink on/ and my smoke on/ then go home with/ something to poke on".
