Wasn't there a video for a song from A Storm in Heaven? That wasn't Blue? Then that one.

Oooh, was this the stop-motion animation one in the comic book style, with 3-D paper cut-outs and such? I heard this song in a restaurant Tuesday night, for the first time in forever, and I probably haven't seen the video since it came out (what, around twenty years ago? yikes.)

Ernest P. (ernestp), Thursday, 27 May 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Zactly. And likewise, I haven't seen it since it came out in '84.

Also seconding the nod to "Sara" -- whatever one may think of the post-Kantner Starship, that was a truly inspired vid. Grace as Auntie Em!

"Walk Away" by Sisters of Mercy: Eldritch, Hussey and co doing THAT silly goth dance down a catwalk. Ditto "Serpents Kiss" by the Mission, 'cept in glorious technicolour in the grebt English outdoors.

darren (darren), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"Do the Evolution" by Pearl Jam. Probably the best music video I've seen in my entire life.

Also that Sigur Ros one with the boys playing footie.

phil dennison, Thursday, 27 May 2004 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

As a wee lad I would watch MTV all weekend in order to see the Holy Grail Of Music Video, Van Halen's video for "Unchained," which was filmed live and included Alex Van Halen lighting a gong on fire and smashing it at the climax. God it was amazing. I'd push an old lady in front of a bus to see that again...

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Thursday, 27 May 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Tears for Fears, "Mad World" and "Change". "Mad World" for Roland doing an odd, shimmy dance on a dock, while partner Curt gazes out a window. "Change" for the funny (yet cool) patterned hand movements.

Chris Hill (Chris Hill), Thursday, 27 May 2004 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

You people all need VH1 Classic.

"Walk Away" by Sisters of Mercy: Eldritch, Hussey and co doing THAT silly goth dance down a catwalk. Ditto "Serpents Kiss" by the Mission, 'cept in glorious technicolour in the grebt English outdoors

The video for "Black Planet" is actually superior -- Andrew, Wayne and Craig driving aimlessly around L.A.freeway clovers in the Monkees' dragster. But yeah, the vid for "Walk Away" is classic -- not least for their tonsorial presentation.

"Serpent's Kiss" is just embarassing....though not as bad as "Stay With Me" and "Tower of Strength" (low-budget Dr.Who).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 27 May 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

David Bowie & Mick Jagger: Dancing in the Street.

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Friday, 28 May 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

The 'Love Is All' video (from Roger Glover's Butterfly Ball thingy)...they used to show the video on Australian tv all the time when I was a kid, right after Sesame Street. Animated thingy with dancing butterflies and frogs & stuff. Made even better now since I discovered that Ronnie James Dio does the vocals.

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Friday, 28 May 2004 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex TOTALLY OTM regarding Belfegore! It must be seen!!

Also: I've no idea what song it was, but in '87 or so, I saw a cute Killer Dwarfs video in which they pressed their own records, right in their own home. Among implements used: iron & ironing board, clothesline, Saran Wrap and a microwave oven! Like I said, clever and cute.

I like those two, but generally have zero interest in video.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ditto "Serpents Kiss" by the Mission, 'cept in glorious technicolour in the grebt English outdoors

The best bit of this video is Craig Adams in devil horns, leather jacket and no trousers, skewering a plastic lobster with a kid's plastic devil trident, standing in a small stream.

Jeebus, that sounds like I made it up...

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

read the title of the thread and immediately said 'Sensoria' by Cabs. some other dude beat me to it.
i only ever saw the vid once on Max Headroom and damn i was knocked out by it. unfortuntaely i have little recollection of it and worry that the years will have dated it ?

mark e (mark e), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

certainly it looks dated although the rotating camera effect is still kinda impressive even today

stevem (blueski), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

souls of mischief '93 til infinity' - i think they went out to the local countryside from Oakland to film most of it, it looks so beautiful
