..or any other successful bands you can think of where the band members/song writers/performers have been anonymous and revolving since day one.

PS and I'm only getting around to the fact, a decade after it, that the chorus of the first song off Lords of Acid's Voodoo U is "I'm gonna VOODOO U!", and not "I'm gonna FART ON U!"

Are the Lords of Acid really anonymous? I seem to remember seeing their faces (no masks or anything) at some performance at The Limelight a bajillion years ago.

are the residents really annonymous?

chaki_burger (chaki), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, they're anonymous is as much as you'll never see them perform without their signature eyeball headgear on. They could be the Fixx for all you know.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

....although that is highly unlikely.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

pigface?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but Pigface always involves Martin Atkins, so it's not really ever anonymous.

Oh...and they suck.

I meant anonymous as far as the fans are concerned. Sure, someone out there knows the real names of the Residents or Lords of Acid.. maybe a few fans. But when either band comes on stage, as long as the residual costumes and music goes on, the band is ALIVE acc. to the fans, even though maybe one person in the audience cares what the names -- real or stage -- of the players are.

Jandek is just himself though.. he doesn't really have revolving players (well AS FAR AS WE KNOW)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

and yeah, KMFDM are as non-anonymous as Pigface in the sense that there's always one recognizable and, more importantly, nameable fixture of the band. (Same goes for Jandek too, I suppose, for obvious reasons)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

(then again, Jandek has never really "performed" in public.. at least under "Jandek")

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing anonymous about Lords of Acid. It's Praga Khan, right? Or Jade 4U? I was into Belgian New Beat for like a day in high school.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

jandek totally has revolving players. john, nancy, etc.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

jandek is the most anonymous ever

chaki_burger (chaki), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The Flirts...different women singing, on the covers, in the videos etc. All just Bobby O puppets.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Forcefield = pretty anonymous too.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

We will never know the true identities behind the performance art genii that are Kiss.

Leee's a Simpson (Leee), Thursday, 27 May 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
I did see a T-shirt for sale in Berlin about 15 years ago that sported a photo of some guys standing next to a train in a station, surrounded with luggage and sort of looking absently at the camera. Next to the image, it said "THE RESIDENTS". I took a good look at it, then walked away...
