Choosing dance 12"s by names and/or cover art

When I walk into a record shop and have to browse through big stacks of 12" singles most of which I know nothing about, I tend to use cues in the artist/track/label name and the nature of the cover art to cherrypick ones I think will be worth listening to. Anybody else do this?

My top cues are:

Something about it makes me laugh - LISTEN
Beautiful, simple graphic design - LISTEN
Cartoon characters - LISTEN
Picture of a robot - LISTEN
Picture of a car - LISTEN
Deliberate lack of information - LISTEN
Grauitous profanity - LISTEN
Subtle hip hop reference - LISTEN
Crass hip hop reference - DISCARD
Textual reference to science - DISCARD
Pixelated graphics - DISCARD
Use of symbols from top row of keyboard - DISCARD
Weed reference - DISCARD
LSD reference - DISCARD
The words "funk" or "boogie" or "soul" on a record made after 2000 - DISCARD

dude, some of these can totally conflict though! what if they're pixelated cartoon characters? or what if it has a picture of a robot, but also includes a textual reference to science? what do you do then, eh mr smartypants?

In fact, I have now decided I never want to hear you DJ!

Robots, cartoons and cars. So, would you immediately buy a record with a cartoon robot driving a car?!

<xpost> No, fool, I'd listen to it, and if it sucked I'd put it back!

Mullygrubber OTM.

Seriously, does nobody judge potential using this stuff or do you all only listen to things you've heard of?
