Bloody ell. they marketed them from the age of six?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

They were on Full House at like age 2

yeah i'll be re-mastering all over the house when they turn 18.

They were on television before they could walk. Waiting until the age of six for full-blown marketing seems generous.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Umm, why did that happen?

My eldest, Amber, is six and is the kind of pretty girl that could get 'marketed' all over the place. But there is no way I'd put her through all that kind of pressure, no-one needs that. People I know who have done such things have been people whos occupation puts them into the limelight at various times, so at least have a handle on coping with it. This kind of work tends to be 'short burst' and the kids gets bored to tears with it quite quickly.

The Olsens seem to be the exception to the rule as far as child stars go. Their parents didn't try to steal their money, the girls still seem relatively well-adjusted, and they're just as popular at 17 as they were at 6.

I think there's been some alien intervention somewhere along the line, because that's just not how things work in Hollywood.

So the drummer was eight, the engineer was six, the producer was ten, and the lead guitarist was seven?

I hope they haven't gone and cleaned up the legendary tape hiss on those early classics

They don't seem very well-adjusted to me at all. And, on VH1, they called them "America's youngest self-made millionaires." Keep in mind, this was at the end of the show that described how their manager was able to make them so much fuckin money without them having a hit TV show or movie since they were like 5.

David Allen (David Allen), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm glad they're finally fixing all that shit that Jeff Lynne and David Bowie did to the original releases. Rumor is there's an Albini-produced tape in the vaults somewhere.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i wanna hear the bonus track from their "berlin phase."

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 May 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

or their original version of "they're not gonna get us"

...and I heard he got Santiago Durango and Michael Gerald to lay down some tracks. Gerald's background vocals on "Pullin' an All Nighter" are supposed to be magical.

The look really emaciated now, like little slut goblins with big heads.

shookout (shookout), Saturday, 29 May 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Unlike the stocky little goblin critters in the above photo.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm looking forward to the release when they get stripped down and call it 'Mary Kate and Ashley: Naked'.

Y'know, like the Beatles. Oh, wait - you thought I was...? Ugh...

Side issue: Y'know...I can think of only 3 child stars that didn't end up as embarassing junkie/pornstar losers: Phil Collins, Emmanuel Lewis and Bill Mumy**
** = Granted, I would sympathize if you thought that Mumy singing "Party in My Pants" is worse than being a junkie.

The sky in the Brother for Sale cover certainly looks ominous and foreboding.
