And the first two seconds of "Immigrant Song" is these big tape hiss sounds, like at the beginning of "Friends" but even louder and longer. Erm, it's not like that on the "Remasters" 2cd set I have so er is it the same on yours or do I need to take it back to Virgin?

It's OK, it's like that on all versions, on CD the treble 'crispness' probably just makes it more noticable.

So they 'cleaned it up' for the Remasters collection then? Seems silly.

BTW there is a great version on the new DVD that begins with a nice F# drone then Bonham's '1-2-3-4' then crashes into the riff. Quite a solo on that one too.

I've heard someone here on ILM complain about the 1990 remasters. Maybe Jimmy Page took some slight mixing liberties and tried to clean it up.

Am I the only one who likes the tape hiss noises? Seems to build momentum into the song. Kinda cool.

Hahaha, I never owned LZ3 before the reissue. I thought it was supposed to be like that!

It's a lead-in; it's psychedelic. I think it makes perfect sense!

Clarke B. (Clarke B.), Friday, 28 May 2004 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

why, or why, did you buy Led Zep III on CD?

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 28 May 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul, if you haven't listened to Zep in the car... I'll just say you're missing out. Sheesh, vinyl snobs... ;-)

that's what classic rock radio is for, duh.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"get the led out" at 9 PM on like every classic rock radio station in America to thread!

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

They don't play no "Out on the Tiles" though now do they?... The c-rock station in my town in deficient.

Clarke B. (Clarke B.), Friday, 28 May 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

move to Chicago, they have two great classic rock stations there.

I don't got a turntable. Anyway vinyl makes too much of a racket.

Masked Gazza, Friday, 28 May 2004 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep, I fondly recall my old vinyl copy, tho I haven't heard it in 15+ years. Fully half of the Led Zeppelin III songs had false starts or weird noises at the beginnings, for whatever reason. No defect, just part of the whole gestalt of the original LP. I'm glad to know it's restored! Hate it when CD reissues eliminate stuff like Black Sabbath's "Blow On The Jug" or Iggy's "Raw Power" belch.
