where's our "bush of ghosts" (not that i think we need one)?

is there a (non-pop, quasi-pop) record out now that you feel incorporates technologies/techniques that are conceivably on the cusp of being incorporated into mainstream pop? or is this model of 'influence'/innovation no longer relevant (assuming it ever was)? (plus how tempting is it to knock off some electroacoustic thing and call it "my life in the ghosts of Bush"?)

'Golden State' would've been if they kept the original cover

thought i'd try and give this one another chance before it drops off new answers.

i think there was a feeling around '99 that glitch was going to result in something more than prefuse73 and "what about us".

Can't think of one mitch. BTW did you ever hear Mya's "That's Why I Wanna Fight" - the last thirty seconds or so leave "What About Us" in the dust in terms of Jerkins-glitchiness.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 30 May 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

no i didn't tim, thanks for the heads up! i'm much less of a sucker for crackle fizz pop than i once was but i'm quite excited to hear this now.

It's also good becuz it rock's Mya's talent for songs with really bizarro conflicted male-female relationships (see also: "Best Of Me", "Why You Gotta Look So Good?", "Hurry Up", "Late" and "Taste This" - check out "Taste This" if you haven't Mitch, it's like the perfect fusion of "I Refuse" and "What If"). I'd really like to write about this actually: I don't think any other female R&B artist conveys relationships as interestingly as Mya does at her best(although Aaliyah came close on her last album).

I wonder if Sterling likes this stuff actually. He should.

Sorry I've now totally derailed your thread!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 30 May 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

oh don't worry, it wasn't going anywhere anyway. i like "late" lots, i probably need to hear all those songs, i don't see how "taste this" could possibly be as good as that but i'm prepared to believe that it comes close. while we're talking about nothing in particular, have you heard "shorty" (put it on the floor) yet? i must've listened to it like twenty times today.

m. (mitchlnw), Sunday, 30 May 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

No it's not actually as good as that but it's very very good.

Have yet to download "Shorty"! Haven't been over to my parent's computer for about two weeks sadly.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 30 May 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

now i'm afraid that i'm overhyping it, but you can preemptively add it to your list of good things chingy is involved with. apparently on the "love don't cost a thing" ost there's a "right thurr part 2", i wonder if it's just a remix.

m. (mitchlnw), Sunday, 30 May 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

you know, what with that zone 4 "fallen" remix, chingy is on my two favourite songs this year. and "one call away" is prob 2004's best alt rock song too.

m. (mitchlnw), Sunday, 30 May 2004 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Glad to see someone else likes "One Call Away"!

Mitch you *must* also obtain TOK's "Sex On My Mind". It's total mitch-music.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 31 May 2004 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, will do. you know, sex *has* been on my mind a lot lately.
