I don't think this has been done, but I might be wrong. Incidentally, there's no need for Beatles trivia here, please. That's its own thread.

But otherwise.....

Some maintain that the word "Ozzy" appears below the artist's signature on the botton left.

Some maintain that the Dio logo, when viewed upside-down, spells out "devil" (it kinda works)

In Bill Drummond's book, 45, it is suggested that the image here -- however possibly unintentionally -- displays the head of Echo the Bunny God (note trees as ears). It should be remembered that Drummond has a tenuous hold on sanity.

An ancient one. Hold this in the mirror and the letters and numbers on the tail spell out EAT ME. Har.

On this, the back cover of Styx's Grand Illusion, it's been suggested that the reflection of a goat's head can been seen in the water (look just below the fine print where it reads A&M Records). It should be remembered that Styx is the river that purportedly runs through Hell.

Ya can't really make it out on this scan, but on the left hand side, I believe, there's a little piece of paper with the words "POSITIVE" printed on it. Many folks with too much time on their hands interpretted this as an admission by Perry Farrel that he was HIV positive. Turns out that wasn't the case, I guess.

There's at least one pic of a cock'n'balls buried herein, the most prominent being right under the word, "ROSES".

It's always seemed pretty obvious to me, but lots of folks miss the fact that the skeleton here is flippin' the bird.

Sorry, I didn't search too hard for an image, but the cover to Queensryche's "Silent Lucidity" single had a sideways image of a face reflecting in water with ripples. I think it's the kind of image that some would see immediately, but I wasn't one of them. It just looked like some weird arty picture. One day months after I got it, I happened to see the case sideways and was really surprised.

And what's happening with that right hand, anyway?

Hah!

you have a dirty mind

tod (tod), Monday, 31 May 2004 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The cover of Sgt. Pepper has a mirror trick as well. If you hold one up horizontally and cut the "Lonely Hearts" bit in half it says something silly to do with the Paul is Dead hoax. I think there's an arrow pointing at Paul and the words "he die" spelled out!

Adam Bruneau, Monday, 31 May 2004 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Given the LP's title, I have always believed that that's actually a stylized chastity belt on the cover:

That face seems prettty obvious, though.

The cover of Phish's Rift has... oh nevermind.

scottontharox (scottkundla), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the cover of "songs for drella" has a black on black print of andy warhols face that you can only see by the light catching it a certain way - and i didn't for months.

take the gatefold of zeppelin IV if you hold it next to the mirror...

spooky!

Cool, Tod, thanks for the link!

Not sure how entirely legit this is, but I remember a grade school friend of mine pointing it out, and it's puzzled me ever since. On the gatefold to The Wall, if you hold Gerald Scarfe's artwork (see below) upside down, the figure of "the Mother" has another face that looks like a guy with shades smiling (notice an upturned curve -- this other face's nose -- where her neck would be). Anyone else see it?

three years pass...

Also, on Licensed to Ill, if you look at the entire wrecked airplane without its tail, it looks like a joint.

Based on the title, I expected this to be a super interesting thread, but I guess not (except for that Jane's Addiction example).

Tape Store, Sunday, 3 June 2007 01:49 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks for your super interesting observation, Tape Store!

Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 3 June 2007 02:21 (nineteen years ago)

Any time! And thx for wasting five seconds of my life with your intelligent sarcasm! Have any more witticisms you'd like to share?

Tape Store, Sunday, 3 June 2007 02:35 (nineteen years ago)

No sarcasm here, but did you really think that the Jane's Addiction thing was that much more interesting than all the others?

Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 3 June 2007 02:50 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I think I'm attributing its appeal to my Google search for "Perry Farrell HIV," which led me to a piece about one of the Osbournes being HIV Positive.

Don't forget Mom's Apple Pie! (NSFW)

Wow, no 'Paul is dead' stuff yet.

chap, Sunday, 3 June 2007 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Oh wow, I'd never seen that Mom's Apple Pie cover so close up! Damn, there's even a clitoris and everything.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 3 June 2007 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

Jane's Addiction putting "positive" on their album sleeve just seems to be a part of Perry's whole annoying keep-smilin'-free-hugs-free flapjacks bang a bongo and buy pepsi at lollapalooza thing.

Speaking of ew, if you open up the inside of Jane's Addiction's Nothing's Shocking and look in Perry's glasses, you can see a closeup of his naked crotch!
