makers of the compilations:

bobby digital dixon: "flag flown high"
the x-terminator sound: "rough inna town"
winston riley: "dancehall techniques"
king jammy: "the rhythm king"

well i sort of enjoyed the first one. are the others any good?

i distrust the pressure sounds label for some reason. i don't know why. maybe because trojan comps are a way better deal, and greensleeves comps seem more "authentic", and soul jazz comps are more lovingly put together. pressure sounds seem to be beat on all fronts.

OTOH i am thinking of buying these anyway because i am starved for late-80s and early-90s dancehall. things along the lines of the "dancehall 101" series.

suggestions? caveats?

Dancehall Techniques and the King Jammy comp are both fantastic. Rough Inna Town is just okay. All three are good things to buy if you have Dancehall 101 and want to pick up more stuff.

Pressure Sounds is much more a rarities/collectors label than the other three you mention. All of their CDs have that "do I really need another Keith Hudson, Prince Far I dub collection" feel about them. Some people do (me included, actually.)

four years pass...

I've changed my mind about the Pressure Sounds label. Listening to Joe Higgs "Wages of Crime" from Every Mouth Must Be Fed. Just mind blowing.
