"2 of Amerikaz nightmares" I believe it's called.

XXL gave it an "XL" and called it a return to form.

Which gets me pretty excited (although that murda mixtape they put out last year was terrible) but it's not in the shops here, or on slsk.

Got any views?

only heard leaked mixtape tracks and its 50/50 right now.

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Monday, 31 May 2004 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

caught them whilst channel surfing on carson fuckin daly's show; i didn't even *know* it was them so bad it was. now this could just be due to the inherent not-greatness of live rap, but still ...

jake in portland (cerybut), Monday, 31 May 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but the production (on the track I heard) lifts "She Blinded Me With Science"!!!

Not been to many hip-hop shows?

djdee2005, Monday, 31 May 2004 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

not too many, no, but the ones i have seen have always left me a bit cold. i mean, hip-hop does seem to me to be more of a recorded medium, unless we're talking about the roots or something. but the extent to which hip-hop is better on record or live is a diff. thread methinks.

any idea what this track to which philip refers is called?

"got it twisted". if you turn on mtv right now, you will see it within 15 minutes.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 31 May 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

ha they played that and "shook ones" back to back on mtv jams the other day and um let's just say the difference was palpable.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 31 May 2004 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

the one interesting thing about the new single is with that slowed down "...science" riff and the handclaps it sounds just like slowed down "shadowboxing"-style neurofunk.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 31 May 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

difference is palpable = prodigy's verse on "shook ones" is about three hundred words, while verse on "got it twisted" is about half that, most of it monosyllabic.

still i like the compressed menace in the new song. it's super terse but still scary as hell.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 31 May 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

(i'm just kidding of course, there's other differences too, but i think it's funny how to-the-point the new song is)

vahid (vahid), Monday, 31 May 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i just can't take them seriously in a post-g-unit world. or maybe it's BECAUSE i knew what they sounded like before that i can't. actually, it almost certainly is.

Mm, I don't think G Unit make Mobb Deep irrelevant though, I think Mobb Deep make themselves irrelevant. It's not like they ever mined out the possibilities of their aesthetic, and nobody else did either. They just lost confidence in themselves and their sound. If they'd come blazing back with something as good as "The Infamous" it'd be making G Unit sound irrelevant...

Jacob (Jacob), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

got it twisted = growing on me

i like the way the drums sound, and the sample was annoying at first but not so much anymore. have no idea how relevant they are.

pheNAM (pheNAM), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I cant take this statement seriously. What are you on about? Unless you're saying G-Unit improved on the Mobb Deep sound which is balls. I quite like the new MD single fwiw.

the new stuff seems okay... nothing amazing, still them doing them by the numbers, bur alright nonetheless. they still have good rap voices.

haven't heard this yet but the songs on the GRODT soundtrack were not so great. I'm more excited about hearing new MOP, "When Death Becomes" you was hot and so is the new single.

Alex in Baltimore, Saturday, 26 January 2008 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno, I just got Murda Muzik and while it has some good songs, it paled in comparison to the two that came before it. if the albums that followed it declined further, I see no reason to listne to em

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Saturday, 26 January 2008 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

i just finished my mobb-AC/DC mash up 'dirty deeds dun dirt cheap'

two years pass...

what's the word on this album 7 years later or so? obv it's not a classic or anything but I think it's functional if not essential.

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 02:56 (fourteen years ago)

wouldn't that be the word on every mobb deep album like post-hell on earth? do you even have to ask?

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Tuesday, 31 January 2012 03:11 (fourteen years ago)

well no, cuz there's some that aren't at all functional.
