Was Mindless Optimism any good? I hear it is a great bitter record about how they didn't actually become massively successful after all.
Allegedly Factory were going to sign them at one point, but then Tony Wilson decided Northside were a better bet.

I'm Julian Gough, the singer with Toasted Heretic (and the author of Juno & Juliet), so I should know...
The new website, www.toastedheretic.com has all the up-to date details, but in short...
Toasted Heretic are bringing out "Songs for Swinging Celibates" and "Charm & Arrrogance" on CD on September 23rd 2005. They're coming out together, as a limited edition double album called "Now in New Nostalgia Flavour", with a 48-page illustrated history of the band, full of embarassing photos and pieces written by the band... This is the first time on CD for either album. They sound great, Neil digitally remastered them from the original master tape. And the CDs are super-lush, we got them made in a kind of imitation black vinyl with grooves, like tiny LPs... yummy...
Gareth, who designed the original "Songs For Swinging Celibates" sleeve in tribute to the immortal 1980s Tayto crisp packet (an Irish design classic, up there with the dollar bill and the Campbells Soup tin), has designed us a new Tayto-bag influenced cover...
"Now In New Nostalgia Flavour" will be in all the shops in Ireland, but if you're out foreign... www.cdbaby.com will sell us in the USA, and we may also be on www.amazon.com and www.amazon.co.uk
Toasted Heretic are also touring Ireland in October
I'm sorry I'm about five years late answering, but I've been keeping my head down in Galway, writing my masterpiece (a novel called A Thousand Years). I've only just finished it, thus the sudden burst of Heretic activity...
If you've any more questions, please do ask us on the website's Heretic forum, or just email us through the website...
I'll tell you the story about Factory Records sometime, it's funny...

Yes, the album isn't on Amazon yet. Right now, the best place to buy it is from those wonderful people in Portland, Oregon, cdbaby.com, full address:
www.cdbaby.com/cd/toastedheretic
Or if you're in Ireland, you can order it from Road Records, at www.roadrecs.com
I really should pull myself together and sell the album on Amazon, but they want their copies shrinkwrapped, and that tiny detail has paralysed me for a month...
Anyway, try www.toastedheretic.com again, and sign up for our mailing list. We'll tell you when Now In New Nostalgia Flavour is available on Amazon/when we're playing New York/what Neil has for breakfast... Or just ask your own questions, and we'll try to answer them.
And glad you liked the show, Mr Weasel Diesel. It was Whelans in Dublin that night, wasn't it? Great crowd. Lots of love in the room. And you all sang Galway Bay better than I can...
