(this was in the issue with karen o on the cover)

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i saw that but don't have the issue in front of me.

blame blender for this rash of lists in rock mags.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

THis list was bullshit

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

remind me....who else was on the list?

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Franz Ferdinand and the Libertines I think!!! I'm forgetting the rest. There was a sublist of perpetual indie bands that should make it big but don't: including the Magnetic Fields, Sonic Youth and the Flaming Lips

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Aren't those three bands big?

Debito (Debito), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"should make it big", ugh

the surface noise and the analogue warmth (electricsound), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i think these are:

#1 bands that spin readers are already aware of
#2 bands who have ads in spin
#3 music for boring corny college radio fux

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this in terms of record sales or what? Cus Sonic Youth and the Flaming Lips seem to be close to the top in terms of critical acclaim and popularity.

Right?

Debito (Debito), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure Linkin Park moves more units than Sonic Youth.

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Almost certainly. But this is a list of indie bands. Saying that Sonic Youth needs a break is ridiculous and kind of insulting, cus it's THE indie band.

Debito (Debito), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)

but they're not bigger than STAIND!!!@!@@@!!

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Band needs a break.

Debito (Debito), Sunday, 13 June 2004 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

in this month's Rolling Stone:

"Mick Jagger, solo artiste, needs a break! Also, Liars are scum."

Gear! (Gear!), Sunday, 13 June 2004 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

saharah hotnights (spelloingdf) was on the list

also, i wonder how the sonic youth loving crap rags feel about wolf eyes / lol-a-paloozerzzz

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Sunday, 13 June 2004 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

no slayer? this list is bullshit!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 13 June 2004 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

no vooredoms? this list is bullshit!

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Sunday, 13 June 2004 04:16 (twenty-two years ago)

but sonic youth's not an indie band! Flaming Lips either. If Sonic Youth were going to be big, they'd already be there, I think. They've had their chances and it's amazing they got as far as they did.

Oneida need a break. They should be really really popular.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 13 June 2004 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Sonic Youth's new album is gonna be their tipping point.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Sunday, 13 June 2004 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, this list was totally predictable. It was basically all bands that were in SPIN's Top 40 albums of 2003.

jESS DOES YOUR MOM LIKE GRIME?!?!

jw (allocryptic), Monday, 14 June 2004 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

until harvell's post i'd thought "deserve a break" meant "oughta be stopped talking about for a few months or so, you know, so everyone involved can catch their breath a little"

tom west (thomp), Monday, 14 June 2004 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

the history of what kind of music my mom likes is well documented on ilm

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 June 2004 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Monday, 14 June 2004 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

'Worst list ever' of the month, surely.

billstevejim, Monday, 14 June 2004 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

"What if there's other music that rocks? Y'know, we don't wanna sound STUPID..."

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 14 June 2004 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

We should start a feature where we make a list of the worst music lists of the past month.

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Monday, 14 June 2004 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)
