Tresor, the label, seems very quiet

Are they slowing up their release schedule?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 13 June 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

"tresor never sleeps" and the new stewart walker were released with barely a peep. they just put another new comp (vol 12) but i haven't seen it anywhere.

this is a fucking shame because their last batch of releases (chester beatty, house of fix, the mover, din-st's "club goods" ep) was one of their strongest years in recent memory.

i think their problem is they keep throwing away money on their buddies (headquarters compilation #2, the advent, sender berlin, the ultimately disappointing drexciyan shifted phases album) and i know they're having serious financial trouble keeping the club open.

if we don't see a globus vol 7 i'll be k-pissed.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 14 June 2004 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

They were distributed by EFA.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 14 June 2004 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Not much to say but I didn't think there was much to say about that Mover album.

I'm Glad to see a bunch of EFA loss labels being repicked and distributed.

"if we don't see a globus vol 7 i'll be k-pissed." What will we miss Vahid?

cRaiG (craig!), Monday, 14 June 2004 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Tresor was a loss label for EFA? Unless they were spending money on promotion hand over foot, which would be a colossal blunder with a 13-year old label with a solid following.

i know they're having serious financial trouble keeping the club open.
In the age of the Extravagant Cover Charge, it is amazing that they still charge only three euros to get in.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 14 June 2004 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it connected to the general (temporary, perhaps) decline of interest in the more creative and difficult kinds of techno that Tresor always specialised in?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 14 June 2004 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you referring to the financial troubles of the club, Colin?
I've never thought of the Tresor label's output as "difficult", much of it is no-frills pounding techno ("pure techno is the primary focus", or something to that effect, was a slogan of theirs). With Tresor, you usually know exactly what you're getting when you buy one of their records.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 14 June 2004 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe that was the problem then?

harshaw (jube), Monday, 14 June 2004 06:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Well as Barry said, it may just be down to the collapse of the distributor.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 14 June 2004 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless you have a pervasive and investigative personality there's not a whole lot to be said for techno right now. You really do have to "be there" to get excited.
15 years and growing...

avalanche.

cRaiG (craig!), Monday, 14 June 2004 06:35 (twenty-two years ago)

What will we miss Vahid?

globus vols 4 and 5 were pretty much the definitive microhouse comps for a looong time. remember, herbert's "lets all make mistakes" came out two years before "immer" and a year before "superlongevity". i'd say they have almost any other microhouse compilation beat just because of sheer range.

globus vol 6 is pretty much the definitive document of subhead-style techno (whatever you want to call it, scandinavia sound, sativae, scottish style, etc). globus vol 2 is an amazing summation of blake baxter's career up to that point (could have used a ghetto brothers track, though) and vol 3 is just a great chicago/berlin hardhouse mix.

there you have it.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 14 June 2004 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Barry, I suppose by 'difficult', I meant relative to the more commercial world of dance music populated by Sasha, Digweed et al.

Is their club draining the resources of the label, or is the pounding pure techno no longer selling?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 14 June 2004 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Barry, I suppose by 'difficult', I meant relative to the more commercial world of dance music populated by Sasha, Digweed et al.
OK, I see. However, I thought that the Sasha & Digweed, Cream, etc. comps weren't the cash cows that they were a few years back either.

After the collapse of EFA, who does distribute Tresor? Did Caroline pick the label up?

meanwhile, at the tresor club

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Friday, 1 April 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

So it's finally closing, the club I mean, after so many false alarms. But going out with a bang, which is nice.

moley, Friday, 1 April 2005 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

if my maths dont fail me, they are going out with approx. 4 million bangs

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Friday, 1 April 2005 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

last gasp from the record dept? or back in business?

The Maria is not such a bad place to have a temporary residency at. I'm trying to convince myself I never needed to go to Tresor anyway after missing my chance last year.

true methylated spirit, Friday, 1 April 2005 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

What a way to go with THAT lineup of artists over the next two weeks!

Mapquest is telling me that Maria am Ufer is a few blocks from the Brandenberg Gate, right next to the Tiergarten. This doesn't seem right.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 2 April 2005 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

it isnt. its close to ostbahnhof and haus berghain, way out east

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Saturday, 2 April 2005 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah it's on the river near Ostbahnof; but that said it faces Kreuzberg so it's hardly farflung.

I can't hear the Ellen Allien interview anywhere on there :-/

Oh well. At least I heard 'Wurz + Blosse' ... might have to get Speicher 2 after all (I think it's on there?). Maybe I should have gone to Tresor when I had the chance after all :-(

fandango (fandango), Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

That was a fun show, although it came off as more of a travel board advert for Berlin than anything else.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

god, it seemed interesting, but after about 15 minutes i couldnt stand hearing mary anne hobbs talking utter shite, and had to turn it off. please take her off the air!
