earmark, which i think is related to one of those other italian labels (get back, drop out, akarma, something). they've been doing nice heavy pressings of motorhead, sabbath and girlschool albums but most importantly they did the jan dukes de grey album. sweet!

whoever the mysterious character is who represses the major label LPs of stuff like joyride, gandalf, herbie hancock's "sextant," etc, doesn't do the best pressings, but it's nice to be able to pick those albums up for $8.

I haven't bought any vinyl reissues even though so many of them look SO GOOD. Buying them means being tempted to play them, and playing them means ruining their oh-so-collectible pristineness.

since when are vinyl reissues on any of these labels (save masterful Basic Channel) 'oh-so-collectible'?

jeanjeudi, Monday, 14 June 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

although 4MwB pressings are really LOUD.

I think the mysterious folks who do those major-label reissues is Scorpio Records, out of New Jersey.

I don't really know if they ARE collectible, they just SEEM that way, they seem too pretty and special to actually be played. (This is less of a complaint than it may seem -- I still have my Original Master Recording Beatles albums from 20 years unplayed!)

I like SubPop a lot. They broke Nirvana back in the day and I think they sell vinyl, too.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 June 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

gentlemen, only buy original pressings. reissues are the devil's work.

jackwhite (jackwhite), Monday, 14 June 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, i knew the word 'scorpio' was involved. i was pretending they were being done by hank scorpio, though.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Monday, 14 June 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

subpop and matador both put out good and cheap reissue vinyl.

originals are sometime hard to find/in bad condition/expensive, Jack!
