sexiest male vocals?

Personally I have a weakness for the moment when Thurston Moore yells "LIKE THIS" on "Hotwire My Heart." Also notable: Iggy on "Gimme Danger."

gedoudahere, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Jarvis Fucking Cocker.

also when he out of Soviet says "Ahem...I digress" on "Marbleyezed".

Allyzay, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan Ferry and the aforementioned JC. I love how Ferry mocks everything he sings, especially his own lyrics.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Cocker: OTM. Ferry, however, is just that bit too mocking to be truly sexy, in my view.

gedoudahere, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

"Slave to Love" is pure sexy.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah definitely bryan ferry. i think lou reed too. and otis redding, percy sledge, ed kuepper, paul weller, the guy from the doves

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Ferry's vocals are too obvious in their seductiveness, too controlled somehow, to really affect me as they seem intended to. When someone sounds like they're fucking losing it, that's what I react to. That said, yes, Ferry is a terrific singer, and Flesh + Blood is a very steamy listen.

gedoudahere, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 03:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Otis Redding, indeed, I must say.
But LOU REED? No way in hell, not to me.

gedoudahere, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Obvious, but Bowie.

Though, I just consider him a sexy man all round.

Sasha (sgh), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

lou reed... i think it's something about his voice being really deep. i absolutely love that song "what's good" from the until the end of the world soundtrack. and sweet jane.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I've only heard "What's Good" a couple of times, and not recently, so I can't really say about that particular song. My nomination for Sexiest Lou Reed Song, if I had to make one, would be "Satellite of Love," and most of the reason for that is the David Bowie backing vocals at the end.

gedoudahere, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Daniel Ash on "So Alive".

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost - david bowie is super sexy too, you're right. that is a great song too.

it's so subjective on a number of levels though, don't you think? since we would all define what constitutes "sexy" so differently?

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course. Not trying to be unnecessarily contentious. I just started this because the existence of the "sexiest female vocals?" thread seemed to call for it.

Other possibilities:
Kevin Shields (cf. Isn't Anything, esp. "Cupid Come")
Nick Cave (cf. "Do You Love Me?")

gedoudahere, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:31 (twenty-two years ago)

yes nick cave for sure! and i confess a bit of a torch for tex perkins from the cruel sea. i think the deep voice thing might be a bit of a theme for me. and vocalists who make me think of a dark smoky bar, late at night.

Saucy breathy, eh?

So you'd really go for a guy who breathed tomato ketchup fumes all over you, right?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Robert Palmer on "You Overwhelm Me."

Joseph McCombs, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

You can take that "apostrophe catastrophe" to cover comma catastrophes, as well. Sigh.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

So you're saying you wouldn't go for a guy who breathed tomato ketchup fumes all over you now?

Thought it was too good to be true [sigh].

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it depends if he was a dirty dronerock boy who sung like a choirboy, now, wouldn't it?

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, I'm only good for the ketchup breath I'm afraid.

When I was 15, as many years ago, my parents' friend's 20 yr old daughter used to visit me in my bedroom and writhe and grind about to Marc Bolan's whispery cool all over Electric Warrior's vinyl goodness.

Does Marc Bolan has the sexiest male voice ever? Doubt it, but the experience still ranks among my most umm, sexiest memories.

PT, Thursday, 17 June 2004 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I totally agree with you on the other three but Stipe??? really?

I knew a girl named Nikki
I guess you could say she was a sex fiend
I met her in a hotel lobby masturbating with magazines
She said "How'd you like to waste some time?"
And I could not resist
When I saw little Nikki grind

I'll further the love for Marc Bolan. I love how he sounds so spacy and down to earth at the same time. He does the best gasp of all time.

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Friday, 18 June 2004 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

The first 10 times I heard Anastasia (on the radio while in Spain), I thought some Europop girl was doing a duet with Ed Kowalczyk from Live. (Hey, it's not as far-fetched a scenario as one would think). There's a very easily definable moment in her current single when she goes from a softer, more "feminine" first verse into the full Kowalczyk mode.

two months pass...
Leonard Cohen circa "I'm Your Man." Decades of smoking may kill him yet, but the man sounds damn sexy. "There ain't no cure for love" is tops too but may be a bit cheesy, whereas "I'm Your Man" is stunning.

Slim Pickens (Slim Pickens), Thursday, 26 August 2004 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

there is so many kind of sexy... if i didn't know how he looked like i would say early 80's marc e. smith has the sexiest, most exciting voice. and lou reed's voice *is* sexy, for example listen to "i've got a tiger in my tank", a pre-VU song, rowr. boys don't cry-era robert smith too in the boyish sexy way. also i guess the singer from action painting! since he has the robert smith thing going on too. for sexy-sweet i like sonic boom too, the AR Kane guys etc. but talking strictly of sexy-sex voices, i would say jimi hendrix.
