Can you imagine anything worse than being trapped on a ship with primus, ozomatli, galactic, etc. and their fans?

Cruises for Music Lovers Jam Their Way Across the Seas

"Here we are playing at 4 in the morning, we're doing this demented, twisted version of "Another Brick in the Wall,' [Claypool] said." You know, people are tripping and having a good old time and we're cruising past Cuba."

The kneejerk anti-jam-ism of you people is starting to make ME want to throw up.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I would walk the plank.

Francisco Monar (fmonar), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes you said that already.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

nick, I am proud of you for standing up to this tidal wave of HATERZ.

NICK SLAM DUNK ON 'EM LIKE YOUR BOY LUKE WALTON

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

truth is i don't mind primus, say, that much and phish has a place in my heart cuz i liked them in HS and still like some songs but c'mon, 3 days of nothing but this music? and the fans?? not even the young ones but 25 - 35? ugh.

common_person (common_person), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think I'd like to be trapped on a ship with any band. I'd rather watch an evening Hawkwind/Septic Flesh/Sade concert on a warm beach.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

perhaps a better question is, what kind of music cruise would you like to go on?

soulseekers of the carribbean -- put faces to those anonymous names on your list
guaranteed no subpoenas
4 days/3 nights on a genuine restored 19th century pirate ship
*ducks*

common_person (common_person), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i will continue saying it on every cruise thread on this board. it was that or shiver me timbers.

actually i saw the flying frog brigade a few years back and they were very good. the sax player/wizard was amazing.

Francisco Monar (fmonar), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, seriously, I totally agree that the idea of a Carribean cruise ship stocked with improvisation-oriented fun-yet-somewhat-vapid music doesn't sound quite as 'hip' as some dire rock show in dreary ol' England wherein you get to hear Morrissey and Thom Yorke whinge meaningfully about the bad hands life has dealt them, and I can respect how everyone's got their different priorities, but for fuck's sake, HATING ON A CRUISE!?!? Wow.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

the sax player/wizard was amazing.

SKERIK! One of my favoritest musicians, for rillz.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

this does not deserve two threads.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

say what?

don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy, I like him just fine, but he's a mouthbreather

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

the dire dreary british cruise
radiohead
the smiths
depeche mode
the cure

3 days/eternity on a leaky raft in the north sea which will bravely sink after radiohead's second encore

common_person (common_person), Thursday, 17 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 18 June 2004 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

stence the Yow reference upthread further cements your position in the fuckin' pantheon, good on you

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 18 June 2004 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

the funny thing is, Luke Walton looks nothing like Britt Walford, I just couldn't find a picture of him without his mouth open.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 June 2004 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
mayer makes the best faces ever while playing

but having said that i now can't stop imagining another world where michael mayer is behind the decks grimacing at every beatmatch

seven years pass...

Do people hate Ozomatli? I think they're okay. Not really my thing most of the time, but okay. They are playing a free (city sponsored, I think) show in Albuquerque next Saturday and I'm thinking of going.

There is no other thread title with Ozomatli in the title.

_Rudipherous_, Sunday, 28 July 2013 19:17 (twelve years ago)

People here probably don't hate them so much as just ignore them. I think they're okay too. I've seen them several times, good shows. I own 2 of their CDs I seldom/never listen to, though.

Ha - I had no idea Psychefunkapus released a second album. Someone gave me a free copy of the debut, on cassette, when it came out. It was awful.

The musical entertainment and the world of crooners on normal cruise ships prob deserves its own thread
