obsessing over anything is dud

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 18 June 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

they pay for their life of obscene wealth with their privacy.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 18 June 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

it also works the reverse way, shakey. many of them have obscene wealth because of, and only because of, their very public lives.

oh absolutely. I just meant that to become a "mythic" celebrity/media figure is to be sacrificed to the public. These are interchangeable concepts.

Now I feel like listening to Swans' "Celebrity Lifestyle".

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

...but yet, I would estimate that about 90+% of people using this board and boards like it are just as interested or more interested in the celebrity culture element compared to the music element. Without anyone trying to throw up the "we're part of the 10%" defense, how does one make sense of this?

King Kobra (King Kobra), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

there's nothing wrong with an interest in the extra-musical parts of a musical act's, um, act

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

CLASSIC!!!

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no problem with celebrity voyeurism, participating in it, revelling in their misfortunes etc. As far as I'm concerned they asked for it. Have I told you about my Ashton Kucher/Demi Moore celebrity-death-as-corn-sacrifice fantasy?

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 18 June 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It depends on the pop star, obviously.

I'm curious about Tom Cruise. Obviously, he's a narcissist. Does that extend to his love life (his public love life, not the secret one we all "know" about).
I mean, both he and Nicole Kidman look shockingly alike. And after they were kaput, he dated someone with "Cruz" as a surname (Cruise/Cruz, get it?).

the NME are the worst at, particularly following every event regarding libertines zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Here in America, this kinda shit should happen a lot more often than it does.

As Charlie Brooker once said

"Stars don't queue. You queue. You queue to meet stars".
