Kompakt 100

I may be misguided cos it might exist elsewhere (couldn't search "100") but can we make this the thread for the double album, and a way to refresh the old, very long, Kompakt thread?

I've only listened to it once...there's a lot to take in, but disk 2 seems especially strong. anyone?

there is a very new, not so long kompakt thread with discussion of it there.

thanks strongo. i kind of figured i wouldn't be the first...

i am not really sold on it. kompakt seems lately to be splitting it's strengths down the middle (i.e. "pop" ambient and club bangers in separate tracks...why?).

kompakt 100 seems to me to be more of a document celebrating what everyone already knows is good about kompakt, and not really something that shows where they are now, necessarily, or where they're going. (imo, justus kohncke and superpitcher from this year are better representatives of that)

i think the worst thing i can say about it is that not one of these improves on the original, and many are pretty much superfluous.

Wasn't that the whole point of the Speicher series? Isn't it going to be - I guess - that Spiecher will put out the really dancefloor orientated kompakt works, and kompakt the more ethereal stuff?

All the same, I am not hugely excited by this album coming out. It is nice to see them release #100, but - it's another compilation of sorts, just a bit more an internal bit of fun for them. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think Strongo's point is that these attributes should ideally co-exist in the same tracks.

You guys could be cops....partners. Tim would be the good cop and Jess, obviously would be the bad cop. Watching each other's backs, ready to strike out with an example, analogy or a simple clarification in order to rectify anyone's misunderstanding of a point made by other.

(ahem. anyway.)

(in other news this is destroying my soul, little by little, second by second.)

Anyone taking this plunge? Too rich for my blood but hoping I can enjoy it vicariously through ILX. I'll get the CD version, but kinda want the book and the bonus LP of lock grooves and kick drums, too
