Goodbye my friend, it's hard to dieWhen all the birds are singing in the skyNow that the spring is in the airPretty girls are everywhereWhen you see them i'll be there
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sunBut the hills that we climbedWere just seasons out of time
Goodbye, Papa, please pray for meI was the black sheep of the familyYou tried to teach me right from wrongToo much wine and too much songWonder how I get along
Goodbye, Papa, it's hard to dieWhen all the birds are singing in the skyNow that the spring is in the airLittle children everywhereWhen you see them i'll be there
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sunBut the wine and the songLike the seasons, all have gone
Goodbye, Michelle, my little oneYou gave me love and helped me find the sunAnd every time that I was downYou would always come aroundAnd get my feet back on the ground
Goodbye, Michelle, it's hard to dieWhen all the bird are singing in the skyNow that the spring is in the airWith the fl0wers ev'rywhereI wish that we could both be there
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sunBut the stars we could reachWere just starfish on the beach.

But really, I choose Reign in Blood.
Seasons has more variety but Reign is just so much more visceral and fast.
I probably prefer South of Heaven to both of them though.

Yup. First CD (as opposed to first album, which was much earlier) I ever bought.

As great as "Seasons", "Dead Skin Mask", and "War Ensemble" are, I still prefer RIB, South of Heaven, Hell Awaits, Show No Mercy, and Haunting the Chapel more than that album.

I really feel like Seasons has this weird vibe of wanting to be thrash-via-way of 70s classic rock. I'm specifically thinking of "Blood Red" and "Expendable Youth".
also "Dead Skin Mask" gets flack as really the overplayed and obvious song from the album, but I still find it effective. Tom's voice during the verse's is chilling, the lyrics are some of his more terrifying ones, and the song used to be massively effective live. that said, I get why someone would get tired of it.
second side has most of the crap, really. "Skeletons of Society" not a bad song, but it feels like it was written to pad time. but it also has the legendary "Born of Fire" and "Hallowed Point".
voted Reign in Blood sorry for wasting your time
wait this isn't a poll

I used to rank the top three: 1. South of Heaven, 2. Reign in Blood, and 3. Seasons. Now Reign is ahead of the rest by miles and I recognize that I was a fool.
― beard papa, Monday, 8 January 2024 07:51 (two years ago)
Reign is objectively the best one, but South of Heaven will always be my favorite, with Seasons in third place
― Paul Ponzi, Monday, 8 January 2024 11:55 (two years ago)
SoH has Lombardo's hero drumming, always a favorite for that.
RiB was the easiest one for me to burn out on due to the table restarting on side 2.
amazed I can even listen to Divine Intervention anymore. I went to London and Paris with only that tape with me for 11 days and played it hours a day

Reign is a brilliant gesture (it's like the Jesus & Mary Chain's Psychocandy in that way; it's the kind of album you could make, then immediately break up, and people would understand) but in terms of actual songs it's got what, three? "Angel of Death" is incredible, "Epidemic" is fantastic, "Raining Blood" is epic. Everything else is kind of speeding you along to the next thing.
South showed their range: doom with the title track, the '70s rock thing by covering Judas Priest's "Dissident Aggressor," and a couple of great songs in "Silent Scream" and "Mandatory Suicide."
Seasons is Slayer in imperial mode. The first three songs are fucking untouchable. I haaaaate "Dead Skin Mask" and have since the first time I heard it. The chorus is like splinters under my fingernails. But I think "Skeletons of Society" is great; it's one of my favorite Slayer songs, weirdly, and I like the double-tracked vocals on "Temptation," and "Seasons in the Abyss" is another grand epic. I think it's their best album.
I may be the only person who'll go to bat for Christ Illusion, but I like that it brings back the punkness of Reign. "Flesh Storm" and "Jihad" are great songs.

Seasons was always my favorite, but I can now admit that I only listened to the first four songs on repeat.
― Jordan s/t (Jordan), Monday, 8 January 2024 18:30 (two years ago)
First three songs + title track for me
― Paul Ponzi, Monday, 8 January 2024 19:14 (two years ago)
That helps explain why the former song is the only one I like from either of these records. I've been enjoying Hell Awaits more than either.
