Five years for the Stone Roses. Can this be bettered?

are 'friends' electricsound? (electricsound), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Blue Nile - 6 years

A Walk Across The Rooftops 1983

Hats 1989

Jack Battery-Pack (Jack Battery-Pack), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Debut "Texas Funeral" by Jon Wayne released in 1994. Second album "Two Graduated Jiggers" out this year.

10 years!

Huey (Huey), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Brian Wilson, between "Love and Mercy" and "I just wasn't made for these times" 1988 to 1995

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

d'angelo's debut came out in 1995 and the second came out in 2000. he hasnt released anything since then so it might be another five years til the third album.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Plus, still waiting for that La's follow-up...

Nah, not really.

Huey (Huey), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Rammelzee's first record (with k-rob) was in '83, and he never released another record until last year, so that's TWENTY years. Unless you discount Beat Bop as it was a "duet".... and a single at that (so was last year's "cheesy lipstick" 45) but shit even more props for the gap being between a 12" and a 45!!!

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Rammelzee did appear on the "Wild Style" OST, which again doesn't count as a full LP, if that matters to ya - in this case his first true LP (biconicals) didn't materialize until 20 years after his recorded debut - surely this must be a record somewhere?

Mission of Burma's only recognized studio LP "Vs." didn't see a proper follow-up til this year. This might edge Rammelzee out by a year or two, don't have credits handy. 23 years maybe?

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

He did stuff with New Flesh too.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah and death comet crew too, i forgot

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

And I'm not too altogether familiar with Malcolm Mooney (altho (un)surprisingly I'm freaking over side 4 of tago mago at present, thru phones) but Monster Movie was 69 and his return with the 10th planet was around 99... jesus, are we talking THIRTY years here?! Can's by no stretch his band, but that's an outrageous distance between baptism and first communion.

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Mayhem (debut in 1994, followup in 2000)

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Simon Finn released his acid-folk debut in 1970. He has recently recorded new material and his follow-up will be out later this year. 34 years, beat that.

Jonathan Z. (Joanthan Z.), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The Avalanches -- four years and counting?

TempModJ, Monday, 21 June 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The Feelies had a six-year gap, I believe.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Rammellzee guest-rapped on Sly & Robbie's Rhythm Killers. It was one of my top LPs of 1987(?). I think he was also involved w/Gettovetts, a Bill Lasswell kinda thing, around the same time.
Brian Wilson collaborated w/Van Dyke Parks on Orange Crate Art in 1994, but leaving this out was probably kind.
I thought of R Hell right away, but his five years is no big deal.

lovebug starski, Monday, 21 June 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The Drones: 1977 to 2000 = 23 years

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, The Drones win. I was gonna say (predictably) Bark Psychosis - 1994 until 2004.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The Drones definitely win, but Mission of Burma was close (22 years), as was Crispy Ambulance (20 years).

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Gene Simmons solo records First one: 1978. Second one: 2004.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

like jazzbo, i immediately thought of the feelies when i saw the thread-title, though i was sure their gap wasn't the longest. [they did release some stuff as the trypes inbetween the first two feelies albums. (don't know if speed the plough/willies/yung wu released anything in those years)

dr. lies/michael: mooney recorded some music with can in 1986, which eventually surfaced three years later on rite time. still quite a gap though :)

willem (willem), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

18 years between the first Chuck E Weiss album and the follow up.

Jack Battery-Pack (Jack Battery-Pack), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Television: 1977 to 1994 ?

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

You forgot Adventure (1978), Television's follow-up to Marquee Moon.

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Malcomn Mooney is on Can's "Rite Time" which came out in 1989. Twenty years is still a good long time.

earlnash, Monday, 21 June 2004 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(like i said upthread... :-)

willem (willem), Monday, 21 June 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Was there ever an official Rocket From The Tombs release (single, comp, or otherwise) back in the day?

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 21 June 2004 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I've heard reports that Willis Alan Ramsey is recording a second album, following up a debut from 1972.

six years pass...

New (3rd) album coming by Scouse-Mancs It’s Immaterial. 30 years since the 2nd album. Getting good reviews too; 9/10 in Uncut mag etc.

I was sure there was a thread about album gaps generally not just between debut and 2nd albums but.. can’t find it if so.
