i was really pleasantly surprised by both the choice of albums and quality of reviews today. dleone, yr black dice review was good; im anxiously awaiting a physical copy of that album. also, the six organs review was good, im now really excited about the thermals, and the other non-apes album seemed promising.

what with the the upcoming 70's list starting on wednesday, this could be a good week for pitchfork.

congrats, pfm writers...

thanks! yeah, 70s list should be fun

I think the Black Dice review talked about no-wave too much. Also, I don't really see High Rise and Fushitsusha comparisons on this Black Dice record. But it was a good review, the "Brown Eyed Girl" comparison OTM.

the review also said the strokes were new-no-wave influenced? WTF?

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

new, not no

dleone (dleone), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

new-wave, as opposed to no-wave

but i mean, who HASNT heard "soma" and thought, "boy, this is the most transparent '5:30' rip-off of all time..."?

dleone, im trying to make a list of 200 essential 70s albums that contains the upcoming PFM 100 list. its a fun challenge. i think you guys will have some stuff that i dont include, but im trying to catch it all...

peter smith (plsmith), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't actually know what will be on it (it's all very hush-hush) - but based on the blurbs I was assignd, I think it should be a good list

dleone (dleone), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

how many blurbs are you writing?

peter smith (plsmith), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Rod Stewart - Blondes Have More Fun
by Dominique Leone

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'm doing 6 or 7 blurbs. but that's as much as you'll get out of me before it runs, except that...
