That BBC4 prog was great, yeah? I had forgotten how much I enjoyed "Do not adjust your set" when I was very little.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, and that song about the Geezer. The streets to hear that one...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Are they repeating this at any point ever do we know? Really REALLY wanted to see except I went to sleep instead.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It was repeated. about 6 hours later.

I missed the John Martyn one.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

6 hours, grrr. They can't have THAT much to show on BBC4. A repeat of the Radiophonic one would be nice too.

Men Opening Umbrellas Ahead is my most-want-to-hear-only-i-CAN'T record of all time at the moment, the Uncut thing about it last month only served to fuel my frustration more. I don't know very much about him apart from the sketchy basics (as may be apparent)

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I vidtaped "sir henry" but heck it's hard going.

I did also tape the doc mentioned.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't mastered the art of taping off digital yet. Gr.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll hang on to it for now, alex in don.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

You're a nice man

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i would love to see the Viv documentary if anyone can supply me with a copy..

I spend a whole weekend remastering Men Opening Umbrellas Ahead a couple of years back, editing out most of the pops and crackles and made myself a lovely CD with most of the 7" sides plus a couple of compilation tracks. Also got some rare stuff including a tape of the Rawlinson Dogends show from 91.

Jack Battery-Pack (Jack Battery-Pack), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

that "ginger geezer" book is so depressing i'd actually suggest avoiding it, so full is it of depressing incidents of slow decay(eg he chose not to be bothered with royalties for the "intro" on tubular bells, of all things to pass up)

the book is also seemingly devoid of any spare wit not already used up in any recorded thing whilst/yet dealing with the said existing recordings reveiwed scantily in annoying maybe-third-hand, "anecdotal" or at least arms-length views

george gosset (gegoss), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, Alex/Jack, check yr mail aha.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

form a queue.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, who's last?

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

You, at the moment.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Jack batterypack! where are you?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 25 June 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Y'know, I don't reckon Jack Battery-Pack is actually his real name.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 25 June 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

That's his loss. Possibly.

mark grout (mark grout), Saturday, 26 June 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Been reading this book and am experiencing the same thing. Should have read this thread first.

Here's a little half-hour (sorry it's not six!) interview with Neil Innes and Vivian's second wife

I dunno, he was a mad erratic genius so what were you expecting?

Mark G, Sunday, 8 July 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

Good point. But I recently read some other books about difficult geniuses and both of them avoided this trap

I'm sure Noel's learned more than a small amount from Viv.

that big grunt footage is stunning.

Talcum Mucker, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 10:31 (thirteen years ago)

Doesn't it have some kind of weird capitalization scheme, BiG GRunt or something?

ratso piazzolla (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 10 July 2012 10:48 (thirteen years ago)

that's true.. but i'm lazy and almost never use capitals in postings..
