I missed the John Martyn one.

Men Opening Umbrellas Ahead is my most-want-to-hear-only-i-CAN'T record of all time at the moment, the Uncut thing about it last month only served to fuel my frustration more. I don't know very much about him apart from the sketchy basics (as may be apparent)

I did also tape the doc mentioned.

I spend a whole weekend remastering Men Opening Umbrellas Ahead a couple of years back, editing out most of the pops and crackles and made myself a lovely CD with most of the 7" sides plus a couple of compilation tracks. Also got some rare stuff including a tape of the Rawlinson Dogends show from 91.

the book is also seemingly devoid of any spare wit not already used up in any recorded thing whilst/yet dealing with the said existing recordings reveiwed scantily in annoying maybe-third-hand, "anecdotal" or at least arms-length views

that "ginger geezer" book is so depressing i'd actually suggest avoiding it, so full is it of depressing incidents of slow decay(eg he chose not to be bothered with royalties for the "intro" on tubular bells, of all things to pass up)the book is also seemingly devoid of any spare wit not already used up in any recorded thing whilst/yet dealing with the said existing recordings reveiwed scantily in annoying maybe-third-hand, "anecdotal" or at least arms-length views― george gosset (gegoss), Tuesday, June 22, 2004 2:25 PM (8 years ago)

I dunno, he was a mad erratic genius so what were you expecting?
― Mark G, Sunday, 8 July 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)
Good point. But I recently read some other books about difficult geniuses and both of them avoided this trap

I'm sure Noel's learned more than a small amount from Viv.

Doesn't it have some kind of weird capitalization scheme, BiG GRunt or something?
― ratso piazzolla (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 10 July 2012 10:48 (thirteen years ago)
that's true.. but i'm lazy and almost never use capitals in postings..
