This is the thread where you tell me about Ambulance Ltd

what is the deal with these guys? The songwriting/production gloss is *very* 90s UK and sounds gorgeous - is this the most British-sounding album by a US band possible? I don't know anything about them and am just now listening to their album for the first time. Anyone's got any dirt/opinions, lay it on me please.

younger nyc band. live show is very polished and good it in its way but gets a bit samey.

I like it, but I'm mystified at the wider appeal of this stuff. As far as I knew, no one in the states ever liked this glossy, dreamy vocals+wall of guitars sound.

They looked & sounded pretty good on Conan a couple of weeks ago (unless there's another band called just Ambulance).

They're shit also rans from NYC that are the absolute bottom of the barrel. They think they're the second coming of Interpol, but they're so contrived and hideous that only TVT would sign them.

Shakey Mo -

I, too, have been enjoying the album recently. I'm suprised it hasn't gotten more hype, as it seems like on overt attempt at slick hipness. They seem to go to great lengths to make sure you're getting the message ("This song references MBV/Stone Roses/Roxy Music/whomever") Maybe that's the problem - they're trying to hard.

Anyways, I enjoy it, but keep expecting it to get INterpol-like attention. Odd that it's not, but whatever.

My band almost got the chance to open for them in a few weeks, but it fell through. :(

I feel that tobo is otm and also appreciate that they cover "Ocean" even though I didn't like the cover much. "Primitive" is very Lou Reed like and a fine song, but I think my favorite is the instrumental early on. They had an EP last summer and one of the songs sounded like Elliott Smith. Also I haven't listened to this album for months so it may have been a fancy passing.

what the - is that the tobo from the old FMBB? Have you heard about how your buddies Stratford 4 are getting screwed by Elektra (surprise surprise)?

I like the Ambulance Ltd album but it doesn't sound like Interpol *at all* to me. Not nearly as minor-key, post-punk.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

werd, it's me. yeah, I heard from another Planet about the S4's problems. THey're great kids, but they can't be shocked about it.

Wasn't saying that Ambulance sounds like Interpol, I was just saying that I thought they might be ripe for the same kind of press hype.

well good to see you again! E-mail me, I'd be curious to know what you're up to...

Saw 'em live. I yawned a lot. Lauren's right -- samey.

Revive!
The guy at Rox In Yr Head pushed it on a friend and then on me. Seemed like it might be too slick at first but it's growing on me. Compares favorably with, say, Snow Patrol. But I can see how if they just played exactly as on record at live show it might be boring.

I thought when I saw em towards the end of last year that they rocked quite a bit more live than on record. "Primitve" especially sounded a lot better to me.

the guy at rox in yer head is a creep. PUSH HIM BACK NEXT TIME!
