Is a Meatloaf song better without Meatloaf there to sing it?

Well that's a tough one.

I guess, play that Jim Steinman solo LP where a lot of the songs went onto "Bat 2"

Was listening to this some more today (also "Total Eclipse of the Heart")...what a great track!

His lyrics are shit, but I love the way Steinman builds up his songs: the presentation of various themes, keeping the whole going along until it's completely over-the-top and then pushing it even further past that...

So, was Streets of Fire actually a good movie? I seem to remember Diane Lane lip-synching along for the video of this song when it was on MTV.

Who else would sing those songs. Someone has to be there to do the build up/over-the-top thing.
In that sense, a fat dude in a leather jacket singing rock-opera style is as good a choice as any.
