A thread for discussing the new Hidden Cameras album!

Halfway through it now, and it sounds pretty good. First impression is that the songs are maybe a bit less carefully crafted - there's more of the hedonistic collective euforia, and perhaps less of the breathtaking perfect beauty of songs like "A Miracle" from the first album... It sounds like they've gone for even more of a "live" feeling when it comes to production, as well.

What do you think?

Hanna (Hanna), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Certainly much more celebratory - unambigulously celebratory anyway, I love it very much - more than the first one, though it lacks the stunning peaks like Golden Streams...

So far my favourites are "B-Boy" and "Doot Doot Ploot" (in spite of the extraordinarily silly title), but I think that's just because they're the most immediate tracks.

Doot Doot Ploot is instant, though. One listen through and that melody was lodged deep in my brain. Very classic sounding, almost a real ROCK song!

looking forward to hearing it, releasedate is 3 weeks from now, right? "music is my boyfriend" sounded great on the cbc sessions they released recently.

I have an mp3 of "Builds the Bone" and it's impossibly lush.

I've only heard "Ban Marriage" from the first album. I'll probably get that first.

three months pass...
"Builds the Bone" and "That's When the Ceremony Starts" are the ones that stand out to me.

It gets better... and better... and better. A month ago, I had it down an inferior retread of The Smell Of Our Own. Now I think it's the superior album by some distance. Great live act as well...

I downloaded the whole thing a couple months ago.
I really like the title track as well.

i'm still in the "inferior retread of smell of our own" phase. i HOPE its gets better and better. but so far, after three plays, i've yet to notice a single hook.
