i was gonna leave biggie off, seems unfair. but really, was there ever a better wordy mc than pun? L had better songs, possibly.

L vs anybody and L wins.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Jokes! Pun had muuuuuch better songs than Big L. Big L was just straight street, but Pun had it all locked 1997-2000. Never a realer MC has walked this earth.

Also have you ever seen this picture before:

i've seen it all up close, shit out the movies you'd be buggin'
my cousin juje (?), barely a juve', lost it and turned on the oven
he wasn't playin', blew out the flame and started inhalin'
barin' a secret too deep to keep on the street for sharin'
wearin' the virus, acquired immune deficiency
dishin his dick in every thick promiscuous fish in the sea
listen to me - shit is rough in the ghetto
you bluff, blow your head off, fuck a snuff, we bust lead off
get off your high horse, or die off like an extinction
boricuans are like mohicans, the last of the po' 'ricans
we need some unity, fuck all the jeeps and jewellery
The maturity keeps me six feet, above obscurity

my favourite big pun line (even though it's pretty hateful!) =

"Behavin like a money hungry hooker, funny how the money took her
from a average honey to a stunning looker"

the important thing here is that there is no such thing as rappers except for dead new york rappers.

i'm becoming increasingly convinced that pun takes it. (i was gonna say that i'm less taken with L nowadays, but i heard "fed up with the bullshit" in the car this morning and it hit the spot).

when you look in the dictionary under villian you'll see a photo of big L.

max r, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)

It's a hard choice between L and Pun, never was that much into Biggie.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

The part in "Ebonics" where, after giving a long list of definitions for slang words, L says "if you're in love, that means you're blind" as one definition more is kinda funny and chilling at the same time.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:17 (eighteen years ago)

why is it chilling?

s1ocki, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:44 (eighteen years ago)

it's just funny

max r, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

you know what's chilling? that song "lovefool" by the cardigans. brrr.

s1ocki, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

big l was awesome, top 10 emcees of all time for sure. pun was good at one point, but has been crap for so long that he almost doesnt count anymore. but all of this is moot because biggie is simply the greatest emcee of all time, hands down, no questions, no real competition.

pipecock, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 01:53 (eighteen years ago)

wait, did Biggie's "Party & Bullshit" sample Last Poets? i'm dying laughing here.

i can only take them in small doses, but i found one of their albums and i'm listening to some pseudo-revolutionary track backed by bongos (of course), at the end they chastise african-americans who just want to "party and bullshit" -- i had to put on the BIG mp3 immediately to compare. sounds like a match, maybe a little pitched up.

what a great reversal of intended meaning.

Jordan Sargent, Thursday, 4 October 2007 03:55 (eighteen years ago)

i heart Big-L, but i have to go with Big Pun simply on the strength of capital punishment. capital punishment is one of my favorite late 90s rap CDs, pun's versatility is simply amazing -- besides the "still not a player" radio hit, pun was amazing in battle-rap mode (esp. "the dream shatterer").
