The only similarities are in the songs' titles, really. The thumping beat and slinky guitar of "In the Evening" or the breezy a/c pop of "In the Mood." What say ye?

best thing about 'in the mood' is the break dancers, best thing about 'in the evening' is everything about 'in the evening'.

man, that's a tough one...I can't call it. Two great songs.

With Matt there. Both wonderful. I actually first heard Plant solo rather than with Zeppelin when I was growing up, so both "Big Log" and "In the Mood" are pretty damned special memories, elegant and strange and grand.

"We can dance, we can sing..."

early plant solo stuff is so great.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 24 June 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I prefer "In the Mood"; one of the best songs on that album (which was it? Principle of Moments?)

Joe (Joe), Thursday, 24 June 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"Little by Little" from Shaken n' Stirred really tickled my 11 year-old ears when it was released. I don't think it sold well, though, because I bought the album in the dollar bin a year later.

You don't like recent Plant? I'm listening to Dreamland right now. I'd easily rate it over Presence, probably over ITTOD if I'd heard that one any time in the past, like, decade or so. Seriously, it's great.

But these are both great songs, yeah. I really like the opening of "In the Evening".

Okay, my question: Does anybody here still like "Tie Dye on the Highway"?

Joe (Joe), Thursday, 24 June 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Not that song, necessarily, but I still absolutely love "Ship of Fools" and "29 Palms."

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 24 June 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"The Big Log" is a good Robert Plant song. It wouldn't have sounded out of place on the last Zep album. The guitar on that one is real sparse and well done.

"In the Evening" is an ace production. I love the beginning of the tune with the moody synths and then Plant cutting it off with the title.

"In The Mood". I've always considered "In The Evening" to be the WORST opener on any Led Zep LP. The spooky intro's cool and Jimmy Page's skronk-solo is among his most bizarre, but the central riff is blah, the vocals sound terrible and the whole thing's half-again too slow and too long. Plus the lyrics are totally unitelligible, but that may be a blessing if the refrain's any indication of their quality. (How many goddamn times has Plant sung "I need your love" anyways?!)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 24 June 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

In the Evening

It has more energy & Page's solo sounds like he threw the guitar down the steps at the beginning.

John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

In the Evening

although, that's one of the best Plant solo songs

dleone (dleone), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Love'em both, actually. "In the Evening" may be my fave Zep song.

Plant solo material-wise, I much prefer "Heaven Knows" and/or "Little by Little".

Supposedly the creepy intro to "In the Evening" was originally intended to be the score to Kenneth Anger's "Lucifer Rising". Surprise surprise.

Robert Plant's Solo career: classic, dud, search, destroy, etc.
