I'm an asshole, but I barely have time to eat these days. I've heard all of the good stories in it, and I consider myself a big Zep fan, of course. But I was watching The Song Remains the Same last night and realized that my Zep fandom couldn't possibly be complete without tackling this tome. I think I'm going to buy it and bring it on tour this summer. What should I expect?

More than you'd ever want to hear about British rock gods buying castles....

I bought this when it first came out at the ripe age of 14. My mom stumbled on it and happened upon the telling of the story depicted above. Suffice it to say, I never finished the book.

"Pretty tame compared to oral histories like Please Kill Me and The Dirt. "

just saying that its merit as an expose of road-warrior hedonism has dwindled over years.

I read this years ago while also trawling through Nick Pileggi's 'WiseGuys' and I confess to confusing the two- all that 'Bonzo turned up at the Copa with Henry Hill and kicked the shit out of Bill Graham' stuff. Read it. It'll only take you two hours.

davis is good on zep's mysterioso allure to their teenage stoner audience. and also on how they marketed that image. 'hammer" made a lot of people go back and listen to zep again in the mid 80s.

All the good bits are taken from interviews with Richard Cole, who wrote his own book later. (And his ghost had a better style.)

Did that come from some "Portray your favourite Urban Myth in MSPaint" thread that I somehow missed?

<goes to ILE to start said thread>

It was a "great moments in rock" thread or something.

My uncle, John Bonham's roadie, is in that book - notably the incident where JB pisses his trousers and makes my uncle wear them
