Based on the success of the first two threads, I?fve decided we should make this a trilogy of funk. This thread is for posing a simple question, ?eWho?fs funkier??f

Here?fs an example based on the title of another thread:

Who's funkier, Curtis Mayfield or Marvin Gaye?

Now everyone argue the relative funkiness of these two soul greats. Then other people can offer their own funk fights. Fights of the least funk are also welcome.

Ready... GO!

After having posted this, I suddenly feel bored with this topic.

Debito (Debito), Friday, 25 June 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Although writing that question was fun, due to the repetitive use of the word 'funk.'

Debito (Debito), Friday, 25 June 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

A: Mayfield

Gaye was more soulful.

David Allen (David Allen), Friday, 25 June 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Curtis Mayfiend was way funkier.

Good, that's settled.

New one: Who's Funkier?
APB or MEDIUM MEDIUM?

(i.e. "Shoot You Down" vs. "So Hungry, So Angry")?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 25 June 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost curtis mayfield was ALSO more soulful.
alex i have no idea whoever the fuc your two bands are. i vote for average white band.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 25 June 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

average pink band

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

ed rush

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 25 June 2004 01:18 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost alex: Gotta go with Medium Medium on the basis of Hungry So Angry alone. The Artimus Pyle Band had its moments, but let's face it -- yer boy was the drummer for Skynrd, not exactly Jaimoe.

Sly Stone v. Bootsy Collins

David Allen (David Allen), Friday, 25 June 2004 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I say Sly cus his freaky funk seemed less forced.

Debito (Debito), Friday, 25 June 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm...but bootsy in the jbs...?

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there anything funkier than "Thank You for Talkin' to Me Africa?"

Debito (Debito), Friday, 25 June 2004 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

make it a bit harder than THIS, howsabout ESG or Sly Stone, circa march 1980

chris andrews (fraew), Friday, 25 June 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

funkyness is NOT a constant attribute, it changes dramatically over time..

chris andrews (fraew), Friday, 25 June 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

on the whole, Curtis was funkier, but Marvin had the TROUBLE MAN sdtrk as weall as the I WANT YOU lp, so he can't exactaly be considered a slouch in the funk dept.

steeve mcqueen (steeve mcqueen), Friday, 25 June 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

esg - sly stone smelled funkier then, though.

peter smith (plsmith), Friday, 25 June 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

APB way funkier than Medium Medium, altho the latter is good.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 25 June 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

liquid liquid or medium medium?

peter smith (plsmith), Friday, 25 June 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

!!!

People love Gravity and Ebullition! (ex machina), Friday, 25 June 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Liquid Liquid by a mile.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 25 June 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

if we're talking 70s output, then curtis was funkier. gaye was more soul than funk in the 70s.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Friday, 25 June 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The Pop Group or James Chance...who had less funk?

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Friday, 25 June 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd say the Pop Group were less funky than Chance, but they still had a healthy amount of skewed funk in their arsenal.
