I really like this song & I'm surprised I've never seen it mentioned around here or at NYLPM. Does this one do anything for you? Or is it just Aliyah lite?

No More was a brilliant summer jam. Light as a breeze, breezy arrangement. Players Gonna Play was a tepid imitation. Neither sounds anything like aliyah, except maybe for the vocal overdubbing on "Rock The Boat" but rilly not then either, and their voices are hushed and sweet like a lullaby while aaliyah cuts through arrangements like an R&B diomandia galas.

Probably a bad comparison, but I filmed a high school dance concert rehersal where "Players" and "Try Again" were used for backing music & hearing them back-to-back so often linked them in my mind. More in the beats, maybe. But I love the melody on "Players," absolutely love it.

Sometimes a song can be predictable in a good way - if you think you know where it's going to take you,and you like that place,then it's OK.But Playas Gon Play,or whatever it is,is predictable in a bad way - dodgy use of slang and I could tell what the next line was going to be before I heard it.I hear 'ballers gon' ball' and thought,'NOOOO,not shotcallers'.And then they went and sang it.

Actually, I liked "Players Gonna Play", mainly only the strength of the way the stop-start rhythm, stop-start melody, and stop-start vocal kind of melded into a rather nice stop-start gestalt audio entity!!!!
