Sparks and Moroder. Is there anything really much better?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 25 June 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

No. That song (and that album) is alternately beautiful, creepy, danceable, funny, and totally inspirational.

No.1 In Heaven is far and away my favourite Sparks elpee, John is rightrightRIGHT, virtually nothing tops it ever.

I'm kinda satisfied w/this

sparks must've really kept moroder in check...I'm a huge moroder fan but he has some incredibly cheesy tendencies. My Other Voice, which I think is the one song on the LP that Moroder get's songwriting credit before the Bros. Mael, is one of the most beautiful things he's ever done.

But what makes it work so well is that Moroder keeps Sparks in check, too! The result is that "My Other Voice" is like some detached head singing cabaret -- I love it.

It is like the exact mathematical bang on opposite to the "bands who are better in theory than practice thread", this is where you get a big glorious dream collab which actually ends up skyscraping way above and beyond what you might have expected and is even better in joyous practise than in (anticipatorial edge-of-seat) theory (I assume, i was minus-two years old when the album came out)

Good point Dan, this is about the only thing of Moroder's I can think of that's just straightforwardly gorgeous, no overdone synth dramatics (and I love those and Moroder too). This Lp's QUITE A LOT BETTER than the Phil Oakey/Giorgio thing, isn't it. Pity.

most things are!

Hm, as Sparks can't be celebrated enough, this thread makes me merry.

They truly can't be! And I kinda wanted to see this lovely title float around ILM for a bit, too.
