Let's chat about the mysterious musician Lesiman

aka Paolo Renosto

"Colloquio" is on a mix I'm quickly wearing out. Piano over a smooth Beat bassline and congas. Sounds smoky.

I know that he has composed scores for Italian films, but which? And has anyone heard any of his full scores? All I can find is "The Future Sound of Lesiman."

Love
Ben

The Future Sound of Lesiman really is magnificent. It's just library pieces, isn't it, not even film scores. Either way, all incredibly modern sounding, not at all kitch, despite consisting of the same period ingredients as all those other Easy Tempo-type reclamations. Have you noticed how "Moto Centripeto" uses the same drum lead-in as "Colloquio"?

He seems to get lumped in frequently with easy listening/exotica, but no question is in a different category. Is Moto Centripeto on The Future Sound? And how do you mean, exactly, by library pieces?

"Moto Centripeto" is track 8 of The Future Sound, 3 tracks before "Colloquio". Also compare tracks 1 & 14 (same bass and drum intro) and tracks 2 & 7 (same bassline throughout).

"Library Music" refers to disposable, anonymous, all-purpose pieces produced in great quantities in the 1950s, 60s & 70s for use, as needed, in industrial films, documentaries, commercials, etc. - the musical equivalent of stock photography. It's a big deal now with exotica collectors. Difficult as it is to imagine, any of these Lesiman miniatures may have been background music to a film promoting a 1973 tool and die trade show in Turin.

Neat.

But he also produced scores, no?

I would guess so, but as you say, he was mysterious. (I only have a CDR of The Future Sound, so I don't know whether the liner notes give his bio.)

Looks like accelerated research is in order here. Off I go!
