(I don't imagine for a second that GA will actually pip Usher to the post but Woolworths are backing Usher and they have been so magnificently unreliable in recent weeks that I will chance it; also The Show is pretty much the greatest single of all time so I couldn't NOT show my confidence really SUPER BUMPER FAN CD fucking YES)

BONUS “TOUCHED BY THE HAND OF SCHMEICHEL” ROUND: LOWER (this might be the most superfluous rerelease of all time, especially given how it was the only single off the album that didn't plummet out of the top 40 in an eyeblink first time around)

EXTRA-EH BONUS-EH ROUND-EH: Will ‘Sparta FC Pt. 2’ by The Fall make the top 75? YES (just barely, acely)

yes, this would be a good thing.

"The Show is pretty much the greatest single of all time" jings, crivvens, help ma boab!!

zappi (joni), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The Show is great though, and deserves to be #1 ahead of bloody tiny headed Usher and his overrated pabulum. The radio edit of Chocolate is a real piece of shit too, as it cuts out the best bit of the song and doesn't edit the bits that actually go too long grumble grumble missed opportunity grumble.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey, is that Girls Aloud single that good? I haven't heared it yet.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

It really is that good.

I can't work out whether I hate the Usher track because it's anaemic whiny tripe, or because it's always on The Box when I want to see the new Busted video.

cis (cis), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Usher's new single is the Beyonce-Brandy principle in full effect.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear christ but chart forums are fucking scary places. No official midweeks as yet.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen one possible set of midweeks.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Midweeks are now out.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, I'm updating the spreadsheet as we speak. The competition will be suspended for the next two weeks - if anyone wants to be reading my thoughts on Girls Aloud, Usher, and the Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster et al., you'll have to be looking at Stylus on Monday.
