in praise of Dave Mattacks

I saw Richard Thompson last week, and he had Dave Mattacks back in the band. Shockingly, I've never seen Mattacks perform before, but he was among the most graceful drummers I've ever seen. I recognized him from his playing before he was even introduced, and hearing him in tandem with Danny Thompson (and Pete Zorn, for that matter) was a sheer joy. So let's heap praise on good ol' Matty!

I thought he plays guitar and sounds like a muppet.

nineteen years pass...

I absolutely love the drumming of Dave Mattacks and recently went googling to see if he was still offering a summer camp type workshop. I didn't find that information but I did find this great interview where he talks about his work on various classic albums and it's a great read! I had no idea he played on Tug of War, one of my absolute childhood faves.

He plays drums like a dancer imo. I love it.
