I want a *Cheap* yes cheap mike for making bootlegs as in around £40 (preferably under that price).

Any recommendations people have given me so far have been quite expensive - out of my price range.

Obviously, i want good sound, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg!

I hope to be bootlegging a load of shows i'll be seeing this summer. So any suggestions with the above criteria will be welcome. Thanks.

you have to go used, in that range. at least here in the states. check the classifieds, loot etc., pawnshops, hip neighborhoods where junkie musisians squander their legacies.
I use a sony mic ecm ms-907 w/ 1 AA battery, stereo, 1/8 inch plug, cost $90 and is totally amazing & great.

You want a clipon mike that looks like a tiepin, or something.

A boom mike may be cheap, but might look a bit obvious.

the cheapest I've seen - that works well enough for there to be any point in using it - is about £60-£70

my clip-on sony one is tiny and was about twenty quid, but it gets far batter results than I have any right to expect for that price. It's a shame I very rarely go to gigs these days.

You get a cheap mic, you get shit sounding bootlegs.

You get an expensive mic, you get it taken off you.

Touche! Have you ever had a mic confiscated?? Besides, you should really just take the cables and make friends with the guy on the main desk....

Actually, I have never bootlegged a gig, apart from one time at the Milton Keynes festival (world dom, Damned, etc)

I taped our band's gig at the HalfMoon, Putney with a walkman and a clipon mike dangling off the front of the stage. It sounded alright.
