Soundgarden POX

Wifey has been expressing interest in hearing more Soundgarden (she only has a tape of Louder Than Love, which once belonged to me), and I like to encourage her to rock. I have all the Soundgarden stuff up to Superunknwon (don't care past that), but haven't given any of it a good listen since high school. So, from Ultramega OK, Screaming Life / Fopp, Badmotorfinger and Superunknown, gimme ten jams to put on a cdr that'll cast an adequate light on the Ugly Truth for Lady Jessica

I still love "My Wave" mostly for the intro.

Mike Salmo (salmo), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

First, buy everything you can by Sir Lord Baltimore and Black Sabbath. When you grow sick of that, maybe Badmotorfinger. I said "maybe".

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man, I forgot about "Show Me." I'd trade that one for "Switch Opens," for sure.

'Superunknown' was the first CD I ever bought, and I still really like it. It's one of the best album of the '90s, full stop. It's bloody long, but as a former work colleage once pointed out, it's "hit after hit" almost all the way through.

'Badmotorfinger' is good too, but it's the sound of a different band, really. The songs are mostly there, but I could never listen to it for very long because of that headache-inducing Terry Date production.

On a related note, Soundgarden were my introduction to SST Records, when the Superstore Catalog dropped out of my copy of 'Ultramega OK'. A gateway drug if there ever was.

Yesterday, I went to the A Sound Garden sculpture that inspired the band's name. It was all right, but I'm sure it's probably better when it's windier and there isn't an annoying fucking dog that won't stop barking nearby.
