eleven years pass...

Here's a song I've always hated that has not grown on me in adulthood. However I wonder if it'd be different without the shittiest sounding drums/bass ever.

the solo in the introduction is pretty cool

that infectious arpeggio-sounding hook is really lame, though. feel like one big reason i enjoy jeff beck's records over over pyro guitarists is the more inventive melodies.

Fuck Eric Johnson

That little riff in the chorus of creed's 'higher' reminds me of this song. Like a turd hidden in a poop.

Eric Johnson freed Willie Horton

The chorus is exemplary "classically trained" pap

had forgotten (again) about this guy, and this thread reminded me of another guitarist Eric Gales. There was a time, when I started listening to classic rock radio, where they would pick these new artists and try to break them to people who only listened to old rock music. I actually bought the Eric Gales record because I figured I'd like someone copying Jimi Hendrix more than I would someone copying Jeff Beck. I didn't really, because he sounded more like Stevie Ray Vaughn than anyone. Thank god I discovered actual new rock music soon after.

every time I hear the "chorus" to this I keep thinking 'man K-Ci and Jojo totally stole that'

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Wednesday, 2 September 2015 15:09 (ten years ago)

dude's internal monologue during cliffs of dover:

my naaaame iiiss eeeeheeerriiccc.

e-heric.
e-heric.
e-heric.
e-her.
er-her-her-iiiic.

The worst moment in the whole song is during the chorus where, the second time through, realizing he has written himself into a corner and has nowhere interesting to go, ends the phrase on that screeching high E instead of on the B, and you can just see a little thought bubble appearing above his head with a cartoon of Bach wearing sunglasses.

And the second worst part is probably the opening of the verse, where, coming out of this admittedly very impressive solo it's just like...nothing, like the band is soundchecking or something, and one of the band members hasn't even showed up yet. There's no melody and nothing to fill the space created by that mind-numbing 1-4-5 progression.

haha yeah he has zero ideas aside from the chorus
