Just got the unreleased Stairs album. It is better than original and rocks 'arder than the Coral. Was thinking - what other albums have been lost to the general public, never to be released and grow in reputation each year?

I still love my "Andii in a Karmann" Senseless things mini album. But I suspect that's just me.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Lost album i REALLY want to get hold of = the second Dark Star album.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

its probably out there -- you would be amazed with what people do have.

doomie x, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

let's list them:

1. the stairs
2. world of twist second album
3. tash lee (with joey stec production)
4. la's session
5. dark star (more information norman??)

doomie x, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

to the other mark .. the senseless things mini album sounds fine. wasn't even aware of stuff. was this recorded after their last major album (which i rally should dig out of the archive and spin a few times)
as for lost albums that are worthy .. the unreleased BAD album 'entering a new ride' still gets airtime in my house. and in 2015 will be released as part of the carbon/silicon boxset. maybe not.

What I'd like to get on CD is World of Twist's "Blackpool Tower suite" which was only available on this 12" I had, possibly still have, tho' I don't know where.

Also, I have the last Levitation album, "Meanwhile Gardens", which only came out in Australia. there's a different singer on it, not terry bickers, and he isn't as good, BUT, I have a CD single of a track from the album, "Even When Your Eyes Are Open", which has got Bickers singing on it. So, any tracks from "Meanwhile Gardens" with Bickers on vocals instead of the other guy. Aslo, they were supposed to be releasing a live album, which never came out, so you can add that to yr list. Levitation were fucking awesome!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i have alot of time for levitation. that sounds really good. fuck me, norm, this stairs album is like mainlining captain beefheart!!!

doomie x, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't describe it as a classic and neither has its reputation grown but whatever happened to Love's unreleased 1973 album, "Black Beauty"?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

is the stairs first album worthy ? its rare to see it about and i have seen a copy recently and was wondering .. or is it some second rate britpop malarkey ..
ps. 60ft Dolls - did their second album get released .. it was supposed to come out then got shelved .. but i have a memory that it did eventually get out there via another label.

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, Mark e.

The minialbum was recorded for "What Goes On" records, after they left umm whoever they were with for "postcard CV", and before "Is it too late". It consisted of about three tracks that were subsequently issued, "Karmann", "Is is too late" and one other I think, and three at least unissued tracks they never redid.

"What goes on" went bust i think in the great 'distribution' crash. A few 12" white labels were around, i got mine for £15 or so. Its the equivalent of a short support set: Brief, and excellent.

Doomie should have it on his list, but I guess it's not his bag.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

they were top live act. was lucky to catch em prior to Cass becoming delakota/gorillaz.

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

First time I saw them was supporting the newly reunited Buzzcocks. They kinda blew me backwards. The other memory I have is of a lesbian dwarf dancing too close to me and standing on my feet with her stilletoes. But that happens sometimes I guess.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Dadaismus I think I have that somewhere actually

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

mojo did a "Top 67 lost LPs" list to celebrate The Finishing Of Smile a couple of months ago. i dare say it's been posted online somewhere by now.

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

but that mojo list included a lot of albums which are now available. didn't it ? so therefore no longer qualifying under the strict rules of ILM ..

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

In fact it included a lot of albums that Had been available. i.e. not exactly unreleased...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

that mojo list was weird - it was a conglomeration of largely ignored albums, albums that were out of print for a long time, albums that were never completed, sessions that never even approached album form, and 90's stuff that fell through the cracks. there were a lot of good albums on there, and i bought that new gene clark reissue based on their review, but their list was not really standard.

peter smith (plsmith), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

World of Pooh's _The Land of Thirst._

mike a, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

there is reportedly another love album that was never released: 'gethsemane', recorded just after forever changes, with the fc lineup. no tapes ever saw the light afaik, although it is commented on by people like jac holzman in ancient articles in zigzag magazine. he describes it as "unlistenable", which -boom boom-strictly speaking is true!

the stairs - jesus wept

dave amos, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Arthur Lee denies the existence of "Gethsemane", tho that might not count for much - it has a track listing and everything

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

well yes, i think if the tapes still existed it would have been released by now. there is a bootleg german 7" from the 80s with a love 'track' called gethsemane, which is essentially a load of forever changes tracks played backwards at varying speeds. So maybe 'gethsemane' was just some kind of worthless, stoned tape manipulation. Or maybe our german friends were mucking around a bit.

dave amos, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Aren't there some unreleased sessions from a collaboration between Arthur Lee and Jimi Hendrix?

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Why 'Jesus wept' at the Stairs I wonder?

Yeah, that first Stairs album is worthy enough. I reckon overrated by some, and fairly trad 60s garage type stuff, but there are a few really great tunes on it. I've always wanted to hear the successor.

Iggy Bliss, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Pash, the second DS album is on Soulseek, it's called Zurich.
As for Levitation, mail me if you want a copy of the Bickers MG.

mzui, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Well if "The Everlasting First" from "False Start" is anything to go by then we're not really missing too much

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The friggin Stairs? I can tell you exactly where to get a 99 cent copy of that thing in NYC, but it's not worth the investment.

nabiscothingy, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

the stairs are, without-a-doubt, an acquired psychedelic/blues/terry reid sort of taste. so let's recognise that with further delay! unreleased album is a killer.

doomie x, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

troggs tapes
