ridiculous yet loving 80s rap pastiche or kitsch yet progressive update of reaganomic rap?

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

He's a lot of fun. Wouldn't say classic or anything but definitely not dud. "Run That Shit!" is priceless.

djdee2005, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

he was my drummer's roommate at berklee!!!!!!!!!!!

jake b. (cerybut), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i've only heard one track so i can't really say classic or dud

jake b. (cerybut), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

uhhh, CLASSIC

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't have any memories, it was my drummer who knew him (i was never at berklee). he said he was really nice etc. he majored in music production i think. we're playing tonight, i'll ask him if he has any EDAN STORIES

jake b. (cerybut), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

duke acidic, Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only heard Primitive Plus but I really liked it. Other albums worth getting?

marvin wang (marvin wang), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

the new single is awesome, or well, the b-side is. incredible beats.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic!

He's got skills even though copping the old time flavor!

Like big daddy kane on PCP.

jj, Wednesday, 30 June 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

He's okay in parts and classique in others. I love "Run That Shit" and "Sing It Shitface". Sometimes the production can be a bit tinny I find.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

OMT about the tinniness. its like he sampled samples of samples of breakbeats.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Really like the album from a couple of years ago.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yall are kidding right? Dud.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

new album : echo party
mixtape that mashes up all sorts of old school hip hop/disco with extra instrumentation by edan.
the promo version is a fucking pain.
constantly looping a robo voice : 'you are listening to a bullshit promotional copy of echo party'

ha, I think 'Beauty & the beat' was the same, very annoying

Roger Sánchez Broto (vain_bowers), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 14:09 (sixteen years ago)

uh that's the point

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 15:12 (sixteen years ago)

there are times in the 15 minute mix though that you can hardly hear the music as the robo-vocal is so high in the mix.
still, the 'now please throw this away' (or some other words to that effect) at the end, made me laugh.

mark e, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 15:17 (sixteen years ago)

it's almost as if he wanted you to just get a taste of what it was like but then feel the need to buy it to get the full experience.

Beauty and the Beat was great

Jesus, the Czar of Czars (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 16:42 (sixteen years ago)

The song "Run That Shit" came back to me this week and made me smile. Haven't listened to Primitive Plus or Beauty and the Beat in a while. Stoked that he's got some new stuff.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 16:52 (sixteen years ago)

so it's a mixtape, not an actual album with songs and the rapping and hipping and the hopping?

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 20:15 (sixteen years ago)

this sounds pretty great

nice email (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Tuesday, 27 October 2009 22:06 (sixteen years ago)

The Echo Party DVD is out now too and it's pretty staggering. The source material -- old hip-hop related film/video, 70s/80s psychesploitation/sci-fi/bollywood cheese, foreign animation, and found footage (like the double-dutch jumprope clips above) -- is synched so perfectly with Edan's beats and instrumentation. The video has been tweaked slightly since that original clip above too.
