i keep seeing this picture in the local rags and it dawned on me that a) their music is boring (i confess i haven't heard it, but it must be! look at them!) and b) that's okay cuz they're photogenic. *swoon*

who said indie rockers aren't shallow? there must be other examples of this right?

ok fair enough. how about we drop the whole "music" bit out of the equation and focus on the use of a publicity photo as a means of connecting with a specific target group. there are specific tropes used, like lighting/filters, the setting/location of the photo, the expressions on band members faces (goofy band - yukking it up, in natural landscape, fisheye lens; serious band - arms folded, brick wall, dark lighting).

i guess my original point, or part of it, was that so-called "indie" bands are playing the same game with the same rules as those in the major league (YES i'm stating the obvious and this subject is well-trodden) but... they are doing so in such an overt fashion, the likes of which i haven't seen until recently, that i want to vomit.

i mean, are we regazzi just dying to be the new darlings of spin and get featured in gap ads? cuz that's what their publicity photo tells me. why don't they send their precious promo package to good charlotte's manager? maybe they could tour together and share makeup hints.

I actually am more inclined to give a band with a styled look a chance, cuz its possible their music will show the same interest in keeping my attention. Latest example of this is the Killers. As soon as I saw the bass-player who looks like Hansel wearing a scarf I knew there'd a be a few good singles from these guys.
