I'm certainly shocked by your casual misogyny and rude words, but do you prefer yours with an American Limp Bizkit go R&B feel, or the UK's very own "40 years of British pop music can be condensed into Chas and Dave" types?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Umm, both of these are about *one* person. Yes, I like one more than the other. But on that basis, a no score draw.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Libertines! And how can you slam Eamon for misogyny when his song is a rip on the "men are cunts" version done by Frankee (who has hot legs)?

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

libertines, no contest! frankee beats eamon also.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Erm... did I miss something, but wasn't the Eamon song first? Unless they were released in a different order in the States.

Both songs can go fuck themselves for a bag of dicks as far as I'm concerned, but please let's get the facts straight first.

My New Identity (kate), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't see any misogyny in Eamon, can't recall the Libertines.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Eamon was first, why do you think Frankee's is called 'Fuck U Right Bacl' - jeez

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Both are sweary about a girl. That's it.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't see any misogyny in Eamon

he's not singing about his dog i guess

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

verbally abusing someone cos they fucked you over != misogyny

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i might be totally off the mark here but i dont remember the libertines song being in the same 'i hate you bitch' vein as eamon.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Verbally abusing someone because they fucked you over is not misogyny.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

wow.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

C-Man you fuck. What'll the neighbours think? Mark -- so we must all be nice about betrayal? Fuck that shit! Better to get things off your chest I would have thought. Telling somebody when they have hurt you is better than a) hurting somebody and b) repressing it all.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Me? I don't get you Enrique. What did I say?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

anyway, I think the single's gone through a few repressings.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I like "What a Waster."

Je4nne Ć’ury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark -- you said 'wow' -- I thought you were registering disgust w/ C-Man and me.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"C-Man you fuck?" Come up with a better insult please you felcher of dead dog's asses.

Anyway, I think Eamon's song is bollocks. Frankee's song is shit too. They are both pretty harsh, all said. The video to Eamon's song sees him getting great pleasure out of seeing his ex-girlfriend cry and distraught. So either he is a bit of a nasty bugger or she's been pretty evil.

But Frankee slags of her ex-boyfriend's sexual prowess and also says she's glad she didn't catch his crabs, which is all a bit juvenile. That she says she fucked his friend too just makes her a slapper.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

um, the entirety of the album I Don't Want You Back definitely implies a misogynistic world view. We are talking about a man who proudly labels his style "Ho-Wop," people.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Tell it to the 16 year old girls who buy his stuff cos he's "sooo cute" and not me. If anyone is responsible for the rise of misogyny in music its the oppostie sex.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

:O

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

what a fuckin' waster by a mile.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been on and off with my appreciation for "What A Waster." I suppose it's a decent song. "Fuck It" is one of the worst songs ever recorded.

You go, go tell your friends (your friends)
Tell them, get off my dick (my dick)
They keep, tellin' you shit (you shit)
Go tell i said suck my dick (my dick)

You could tell me this and that
I`ll tell you plenty facts
Your friends are herbs, don't know what they're saying
Friends front in front of me
Fucking wanna-be's, in your ear but they don`t know eamon
Claiming that they seeing me, up in the industry
Acting fool, thinking that i`m playing

Girl if i`m your man, it's me or them
Thats what i`m saying

You go, go tell your friends (your friends)
Tell them, get off my dick (my dick)
They keep, tellin' you shit (you shit)
Go tell i said suck my dick (my dick)

Bring on over all your friends
I`ll put it to an end
In my face all the stories changing
I`ll blow up all their spots
But i`d rather not
I`ll let you see that they just hating
If i want, i got block begging for my cock
There it now, watch how they'll be chasing
This is how i make it stop
I make it really hot
Forgot your friends, when we started mating

You go, go tell your friends (your friends)
Tell them, get off my dick (my dick)
They keep, tellin' you shit (you shit)
Go tell i said suck my dick (my dick)

Everytime you say somethin`
Bout what your girlfriends said
It makes me wanna punch you in your head
But instead, i say the same thing again
Don`t listen to your friends
A-yo they must be on my dick or something
They always talking alot of smack
But ain`t saying nothing
They steady fronting everytime that i confront them
Common they just a bunch of ho's,
Swinging on the poles
Buying coke, then they sniff it up in they nose
I guess you really must be stupid
If you listening to them, it's a sin i suppose
Here's your last chance to make this choice
Then my mind is chose
It's me or the ho's, case closed

You go, go tell your friends (your friends)
Tell them, get off my dick (my dick)
They keep, tellin' you shit (you shit)
Go tell i said suck my dick (my dick)

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Like I said, tell it to the 16 year old girls who buy this stuff...

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

C-Man is OTM about women being the biggest supporters of this drivel.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never heard the Libertines track, and from what I've read about them, they sound like a gaggle of pathetic idiots....BUT I can't imagine anything that the Libertines have recorded could be worse or as abjectly depressing as the Eamon track.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex, I'm pretty sure you'd like (the majority of) the Libertine's stuff, regardless of what you thinkof them as peeopleee..

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 1 July 2004 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, Cal with his hammer of casual mysogyny, might just have hit the nail on the head!

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 1 July 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never thought the person addressed in 'what a waster' was specifically female. There's a 'you', a 'she' and a 'he' in there, and it's not like you couldn't call a man a two-bob cunt.

I prefer it to 'fuck it', though.

cis (cis), Thursday, 1 July 2004 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, it all goes 'up her nose'. Which is a bit rich coming from them, but still.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 1 July 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Eh, but calling a girl a cokehead isn't strictly womanhatred. I mean, if you're looking for a possibly misogynistic Libertines track, there's a much more convincing argument for 'boys in the band'.

cis (cis), Thursday, 1 July 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I always read Boys in the Band as The Libertines speaking about other such groups who exist for this sort of thing.

Anyway, how the fuck is stating that if you're in a band you'll get lots of dimwit girls wanting to fuck you misogynistic? Surely that's just FACT?

C-Man (C-Man), Thursday, 1 July 2004 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

'tho there is no scientific evidence to support it...'

the bitterness in your tone when attacking these girls is intriguing, possibly

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 July 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

There goes that hammer again. On his thumb.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 1 July 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard that Libertines track and have no means of doing so right now, but I do like the Eamon track a lot. I thought ILM liked it a few weeks ago? No? Maybe everyone's just tired of it being in the Top 20.

Atnevon (Atnevon), Thursday, 1 July 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Eamon is just an idiotic mook making music for make other idiotic mooks to feel good about being the idiotic mooks they are.
