Who are the bands today?

I admit this is a stupid question with a stupid premise. It is as if I expect time to stand still. Here I am pining away for things long gone. But still I must ask, who are the new equivalent of these older bands today...?
butthole surfers
sonic youth
big black
or is there? Probably not. Just listening to Jackofficers now, I realized I like it now more than I did when it came out. Give me layers and layers of humorous, twisted shit, please.

Sonic Youth? Probably ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.

Limp Bizkit, Blink 182. Get with the programme, mate. Stop listening to the jackofficers- what have they, I ask, ever done for music?

Julio Desouza, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Possibly not THAT obvious, but I'd submit Pan(a)Sonic as today's Big Black counterpart.

Kodanshi, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, cool, I've been meaning to listen to both Pan-sonic and ...And you will know us by the trail of the dead. So, thanks. And Jackofficers did jack shit for music... so?

Sonic Youth = Sonic Youth. Butthole Surfers = Butthole Surfers. Big Black = Shellac.

Easy, see?

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

secret chiefs 3 = butthole surfers?? just an idea...same could be said for the fucking champs maybe

bob snoom, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

fucking champs? Huh? I got fucking champs IV and it's all instrumental geetar rock. I liked it at first, but it's kinda boring.

Nude Spock, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you can always tell jokes about toilets and mentally ill midgets while you're listening to it. & yeh the champs are pure wank but no- one does it quite the same way (the wink is important too).

i don't know if i can listen to big black at all any more. would i want any other band to be doing tinny guitars / "butch" drum machine / weasely "devil's advocate" ie tedious self important little shit vocals.
