Looks like Jonathan King of ("Everyone's Gone to the Moon", "Entertainment USA" and "No Limits" fame) has done a Gary Glitter... A sad day for UK music, or indirect justice for the man who discovered Genesis?!?! Over to you lot...

Is "buggery" a word that English papers typically use? I thought it was slang or something. Anyway, Nina Simone's version of "Everyone's Gone to the Moon" almost brings tears to my eyes; something that doesn't happen often.

Sean, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mike Read used the term "buggery" re. the "Relax" video, that much I know.

The original "Everyone's Gone To The Moon" is charming, as is "It's Good News Week" incidentally.

He only discovered Genesis because they formed at the same public school that he'd been to and he wanted to keep up the old boy network! TWAT!!!

Robin Carmody, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did King actually write the tune for "Everyone's Gone To The Moon"? I was always under the impression that the tracks producer Brian Meek had a bit of input into it at the very least...

BTW Yes, English newspapers like to use the word "buggery" a lot. Any excuse will do, especially if it's a case like this... Probably brings back fond memories for the hacks of their public school days or something!!! Not just newspaper folk, but also MPs as well!!! Any debate even remotely involving a whiff of gay rights and you have Conservative MPs queuing up to use their favourite swearword with impunity in the Mother of Parliaments!!!!! The Lords are even worse!!! But then again, that's a bit like stating that people from Doncaster might find the Atlantic Ocean a bit wet!!!

Is there a diffrence between fucking a 16 year old and fucking a 6 year old ?

anthony, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you need less rope for the sixy year old.

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I mean it , this is going to get me flamed but there seems to me a difference in Gary Glitters tastes (6 years -9 years) and Kings (14- 17) . In Canada 16 is legal. Now i think it is sick, disgusting and wrong for a huge variety of reasons (mostly to do with power games ) but there is a difference ?

anthony, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, Anthony, of course there's a difference. A 16 or 17 year old has been through puberty, and is able to process what sex is about, unlike an 8 year old. Whether or not someone from that older age group is ready for sex, or is able to understand the motivations of a much older man is another story.

Sean, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BTW, what exactly is "sick, digusting and wrong"? If you were, say, 19 years old, and you had sex with a 17 year old (legal in Canada), that's sick and wrong? What if you were 25 and with the 17 year old? At what point is it really sick and wrong?

Sean, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thats the conundrum i am having . Its sick and wrong because it is rape. A person who uses his power to force someone w. no experince to commit acts he is scared of or ignorant of .

anthony, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

all relationships involve power. cf Gang of Four

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh boy, now there's a direct correlation in my mind between post-punk and underage gang rape. Thankee, Sterl.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(of course, it's not the gang that's underage, unless we're talking of Sum 41, maybe, oh fuck it i'm taking this a bit far.)

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

where'd the gang come from?

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gang of Four, rope, six year olds, somehow it all connected in the ol' noggin. Is it too late to pretend I'm drunk?

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"punk" of course as all know means prettyfaced smooth-skinned femme-ish young guy in prisoner who lets himself get fucked for favours and protection from Mr Big who's in with the warders. Post-punk is meaningless.

mark s, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i know all realtionships contain power cf. foucoult(sp?) but if a famous and rich man buggers virigins while pretending to be a mentor it suggests an abuse of that power as far as i am concerned ?

anthony, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Post-punk" surely same smooth-skinned femme-ish pretty-boy working in mail room?

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"punk" of course as all know means prettyfaced smooth-skinned femme-ish young guy in prisoner who lets himself get fucked for favours and protection from Mr Big who's in with the warders.

aka Ric the People's Poet's all-time fantasy.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

foucault...and um, all rships are power related, entered into, create power, discourses and ummm...do you htink he had a hting for the guy from harry potter?
