What records were on your player in those happy (?) moments of your life when you were totally in love (answered or unanswered)?

In highschool I had a crush on someone who was totally into Frank Sinatra, and he showed me through his best records, of which I still got endless tapes. Though unanswered as my devotion to him was, I played Frank's records in loops for hours, to great embarresment of my gothic friends and constant worry of my poor parents.

Years later I fell in love on Sound in Visions, which was an approvement musically. And...love smiled back.

The club where we were played Sound and Visions when we for the first time...well, kissed. It was 1998, and the club had his weekly retro- night. We broke up after a month.

some beautiful girl randomly walked up to me during "Walking in My Shoes" at the Depeche show this year in LA, grabbed my cock and french kissed me.

I'll risk the ire of a certain man named Raggett by saying that I fell in love with someone whilst listening to Sebadoh's Bakesale.

Gee, I'd almost consider going to see them if I knew that sort of thing would happen

Special moments in my life with that special someone have been soundtracked by Bedhead (_Beheaded_), Ida (_I Know About You_), and the Sea and Cake (_The Biz_), among many other college radio staples. I'm kinda hoping the next special moments in my life feature a more raucous soundtrack. Kinda.

Camille - "The Queen is Dead"
Madeleine - "Skin Storm" (both versions) Nadine - "Lipgloss"
Catherine - "Strychnine" - Sonics, Cramps, Headcoatees, name it.
The girl sitting in front of me right now - "C'Était pour la Passion" by the lovely Dears.

When it was over I have been crying to "All Across the Universe" from "Let It Be" by the Beatles after having burnt all her letters.

With another girl I used to listen to "To Wish Impossible Things" by The Cure from their album "Wish". Needless to say that our love was doomed.

And true love came along on the sounds of Let's Get It On (aptly titled ;-) at his place, while it was Hunky Dory at my place.

The only massive collision between a certain album and a certain person would have to be Suede's Sci-Fi Lullabyes. The first time I heard it, I was snuggled in bed with a boy as beautiful as he was dishonest, up on a high floor of a highrise on the Upper East Side, watching the snow fall from the window above the bed. Everything was so perfect, the music perfectly fitting the mood, decadance, doomed love, glamour, youth, decay. High Rising, The Living Dead, My Dark Star, Europe Is Our Playground, I kissed him to these songs, and forever the moment is burned in my head whenever I hear them. That album is an aphrodisiac in and of itself, but even more because it is so linked with that afternoon.

I found out later that he was only 17, and I could have been sent to jail just for buying him the wine that we drank, let alone the things that we did together in that high rise apartment (which turned out to have been his father's).

kate, Friday, 23 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She already knows, but kate's answer set to a good tune would make the most beautiful song Suede didn't release as a A-side.

erik, Friday, 23 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Exactly why it was so perfect, Erik!

my all-engulfing hurricane of highschool love. Sharon Lanza. a frightening fiery passion, a feeling we both would utterly die if unable to see each other, touch each other, write long sentimental letters to each other. we lived in towns separated by about two hours of asphalt, so tapes became important. the tape that carried us: the Trash Can Sinatras. yes. why would i lie?

I'll risk the ire of a certain man named Raggett by saying that I fell in love with someone whilst listening to Sebadoh's Bakesale.

I read this as a sign that you were so desperately trying to ignore the dribble coming from the speakers that you realized smooching was a better way to pass the time. No, no need to thank me for this excellent interpretation. ;-)

I have said this before, I will say it again -- "Trust," the Cure. You will never know more details than that.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 24 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1st love--Front 242's "Front by Front" (especially 'circling overland')

2nd love, 9 years later--Sloan "Navy Blues"

3rd and best so far--Modest Mouse 'Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset' off "This is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about."

When my girlfriend and I first met "Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed was playing in the background. The soundtrack to our first few weeks of going out together was "Mars Audiac Quintet" by Stereolab.
