So i quite like the jazzy remixes by someone named Hefner. They explore some pretty neat things rhthymically... However i also seem to find songs by some indie crap band that goes under the same name? Are these projects related? They both seem to be British maybe? Help clarify please. Thanks in advance.

ok here goes Both Hefner's releases to date here

the downtempo jazzy dance band Hefner - Residue is the album came out last October 2000. I cannot recall any tracks individually but they are in a chilled downtempo groove.

Residue Artist: Hefner (Dance) Label: Inertia

The other Hefner is a British "indie" band. Not worth bothering about, with goofy lyrics sang in weird accent and geetar/drums/bass.

One Hefner is bad and one is capable of moments of greatness. The one that is always bad is the chilled downtempo jazzy groove one, obviously. The other one is also mostly bad (it gets no rougher than "The Day That Thatcher Died") but not always. Apparently indie Hefner sound a bit like the Violent Femmes but I wouldn't know.

the indie hefner was first to release a record so they have rights but claim they are too poor to sue. the indie hefner is great but i do agree that 'the day that thatcher dies' is a bit crap.

hefner (the real one) are great - especially Breaking God's Heart, The Fidelity Wars, and Boxing Hefner (a singles comp). The last two records haven't done as much for me but have their moments. avoid if you don't like indiepop and embarassingly personal lyrics. the "other" hefner = electronica or something, haven't heard it, is most likely boring

one year passes...
once upon a time in 1998 i thought downtempo hefner was a total genius
