I can't believe nobody has mentioned "Martha My Dear" by the Beatles, and "Mandy" by Barry Manilow. Both of which were written about dogs, but "Mandy" is clearly superior to the infinitely drippy "Martha", one of the worst songs the Beatles ever recorded.
